Delivers on all levels with a powerful surprise
Revisado: 05-14-23
I bought this book after hearing about Peter Attia on Tim Ferriss podcasts and I bought it for the highly technical insights on physical health, biomarkers and longevity. In a very relatable way, this book delivers on all of those. I've taken many notes to review on my next visits with my healthcare team. But the last chapter on mental health was so unexpected and relevant to me that I would have bought this book and rated just as highly on this alone.

Stunning Political Bias
Revisado: 09-30-22
I'm absolutely amazed and disappointed at the political bias in some of these interviews. I had listened to Sam Harris on a few occasions and never detected this. Just lucky at that time, I guess.

Riveting ride-inside the character's mind.
Revisado: 07-11-18
I just devoured this book. The story and presentation is phenomenal. I felt like I was sitting next to--perhaps inside of the author/characters mind. Every thought was so real and intense. I tend to listen to non-fiction but I was looking for a good story and I am so pleased with this one. The colloquialisms shared and the conflicting thoughts were real and poignant.

Creativity Belongs to Us All!!
Revisado: 11-27-17
Creativity belongs to us all! Not just the "gifted" (as defined by the educational system) or the "artistic." I mean no offense to either category, but I am neither so I always felt that creativity was for others. Elizabeth Gilbert's philosophy is liberating and has helped me access creativity in my everyday life.
I picked this book by reading the descriptions. I made no connection to Elizabeth Gilbert's previous book. I'd heard so much about that one and didn't think it was for me. But Big Magic intrigued me and I am so glad I "read" it. I enjoy her style, prose, use of just the right word--and the fact that her words are real.
I might just pick up that other book after all.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

Stunningly impactful. Heart and soul.
Revisado: 02-17-17
Who was your favorite character and why?
Bruce--not only how he won his battle with self-doubt and depression, but how he continues to fight it each day.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
His description of losing Clarance. A very poetic and riveting account.
Any additional comments?
I was not a fan of Bruce Springsteen at all until now. I bought each album as I went walked through the creation of each one with him. I admire him for his battle with depression--and for sharing such a personal side of his life.

Historia
It was the trial that stunned America, the verdict that shocked us all. On July 5, 2011, nearly three years after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony walked away, virtually scot-free, from one of the most sensational murder trials of all time. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

Revisado: 07-16-16
Jeff Ashton delivers a fascinating and educational look into a drama that had my interest at the time. After the verdict I have barely been able to think about this case until now. He blends heart, empathy and scientific detail with a bit of humor. He never loses sight of Caylee and the despicable behavior of her mother. His closing line hits you hard.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.
