This is such a great story. It can be a little hard to follow because it goes from the present story to past times. However, once you get the hang of the back and forth it is such a fun story to listen to. Bender takes Sci-fi adventure, lots of interesting characters and story lines, and a beautiful love story and creates this wonderful book. It amazes me at the story telling ability she has .... so creative and interesting. Elir and Diamond are characters you really get invested in. The narrator, Holland, did an amazing job breathing life into her story. The characters seem so real. He has a way of making you forget someone is reading the story to you. It just seems like you are there watching it in your mind like a play or something. I love his work. These two are a great team and I hope the series continues. The only thing I would have enjoyed more is if it had connected to the other books in more of a continued story. This one really was more of it's own book. Other than that it was a huge thumbs up!!!

I love how this story is set in the Memphis, TN area....as this brings me back home. However, it doesn't really come into play in the story. I know....random fact that has no basis on the book. HAHA!!! Now to the actual story......the author did an amazing job. He really seemed to know a lot about the mind and psychosis. You would think he either studied up really well to write this book or was in the field himself. I can't say the book scared me....but it was more of a creepy, bone chilling, spine tingling sensation I got as I was listening to it. The author and narrator did such a good job working together to make you feel like you were there in the room watching from a dark corner as all this is going on. Almost like you are one of the visions they are seeing....yet not interferring...just watching. Analyzing the situation and theories with them and the whole time hoping you don't start getting pulled in too deep too. It's just a weird feeling this story gives you. I also enjoyed the ending and how even after all the explanations, you were still left with so many questions and doubts. Wondering if you really fully understood everything or if there was so much more to it. I wish they would have continued it but at the same time I was glad when it was over. It excited me, creeped me out, broke my heart at times, and even angered me at times. If you like horror then this book probably isn't what you are looking for. If you like the weird and creepy....unknown phenomenon....then you will love it. The voices and characters the narrator created from the authors description really brings the chills out even more than if you were just reading the book so I definitely advise you to get the audio version. YIKES!!!!!

This is the 3rd in the Jack Del Rio novel series. The author sure does love to keep you on the edge of your seat. It is full of action, great characters, personal struggles, political espionage, shocking twists and turns, great narration in the audio version, etc. It's a true page turner and doesn't disappoint. I was left shocked yet satisfied at the end of the book. I was sad when the book ended. It left me wanting more as usual. I really hope to see another Del Rio book come out. Holland did a superb job yet again on the narration and characters. He makes the books very entertaining and pleasant listen to. I follow his work because of the high attention to detail, great character voices, and just overall talent in his readings.

Don't mess with a Texan

This story starts out with setting the scenery and the background of Joshua and his family. It doesn't take long to pick up the pace and the rest of the story stays action packed and fast moving. I don't normally like war stories but this one is a cross between a good old Texan western and the war. The author did an amazing job on combining the two and making a very interesting story. I love how they wanted to make an example out of this brave cowboy.....but the thing that captured their attention ended up being the traits that moved him to give them a fight. Joshua is such a good character. I love how even though at one time he was such a tough, hard to love guy....he had mellowed out some in his old age and you can see the love he has for his family, especially his grandson. All I can say is don't mess with Texans & their families. The narrator (Theo Holland) did so many voices to make each of these characters seem so real. His voice also fit the Joshua character to a T. If they make a movie of this one day....they should get him to be Joshua. Overall, this is just a really good story and very pleasant to listen to. I definitely recommend it.

ZOMBIES....EVERYWHERE A ZOMBIES!!!

This is a very interesting story and view on how the human race could be wiped out by a virus. If you like stories about the zombie apocalypse theory then you would enjoy this. The story does jump around a lot from each location and group of people which is why I gave the story part of the review 4 stars. I'm usually listening to my books before work, on the commute to work, or on road trips. It was a little hard to follow for my tired mind when it was moving from story to story. You just have to think of this as a bunch of short stories. I will say each one was interesting and I did enjoy them. Some of the details get pretty gory of course....I mean it is zombies eating people after all. Haha!!!! So just listen to it when little ones aren't around. I have to say the narrator did an excellent job telling the story. I especially loved the sound effects when people were speaking over the radios and things. It made you feel like you were really listening to the characters and it put you right in the scene with them. I love how many characters Holland was able to keep track of and each one had a unique dialogue and voice. It amazes me how much time and effort he puts into planning out and keeping track of all these characters. He is so talented!!!

First off, the Serenity series is one of my favorites. I just love the sarcastic whit between Shelby and Mac, the story line is gripping and entertaining, and the narrator does such a great job with the design of the character voices. Hart and Holland are such a great team in creating these audio books. I thoroughly enjoyed Engulfed and thought it was a great addition to the series. That being said, in my opinion I felt it was lacking a little of the action and pizzaz of the other books. The Shelby character seems to be losing some of his cool vibe, whit and humor as the stories progress. He seems older and more tired. Of course if you go through all that he's been through I guess that is expected. Plus he was worried about and focused on his daughter so much in this book that I felt he didn't connect and respond to the other characters like he did in the previous books. I hope as the writer continues in this series that he doesn't let Shelby loose his edge that I so enjoyed and admired in the beginning. Bring back the old Shelby and let him kick some more butt. I can't wait to see what adventure and mystery the next book brings. I did like how this book ended. It went out with a bang!!!

Ok, so I've listened to the whole Tanner series and this one starts you back out with Tanner in trouble as usual. He's buried alive and it brings in the Opium fields from the Scorless Thai book. I have to say it was entertaining and fun to listen to if you aren't too easily offended. Tanner is definitely a messed up, imperfect guy and he knows it. He makes for a very interesting main character/hero. Apparently there are no STD's in this world Tanner lives in because I've lost track of how many women all over the world he has slept with during this series. In this one he even beds a 15 year old who is marrying age in her culture...but in his he would go to jail. lol. Block also took the story of Sheena (if any of you have ever watched the movie) and made her out to be this crazy, murderous cannibal. Her story definitely gets changed a lot. I enjoyed it although I believe the books are getting more and more outrageous and less spy like. I don't mind the craziness and all the weird stuff but if you are going to take it serious then this isn't for you. His first couple books were more government spy like with a little humor mixed in.
The series has definitely took a different direction now. The characters were interesting and Holland as usual made them come to life. I especially liked the character voices he created for Bowman & Ndoro. There was also a surprising twist which was pretty cool. I can say Holland makes any story pretty interesting to listen to. He takes the job very seriously and you can hear the hard work and preparation that goes into each story he narrates. Overall this was a pretty fun story and even though the series has taken a different turn I'm still enjoying them. Block & Holland definitely are a good combo and compliment each other. I look forward to more work from them both.

Bender does a great job creating interesting characters in a futuristic world. It really shows the things that could happen if everything goes online and is ran through computers. We see more and more of identity theft, etc in our own day. Can you imagine if your cars were controlled and driven by computers? Or if you only exist if the computer recognizes you and says you do? It gives a person a lot to think about. Plus it was just a very entertaining mystery. A lot was going on so you will need to pay attention. I do disagree with the review about the narrator. I thought he did a great job. His voice is so soothing. He gives his characters a lot of attention and creates voices to bring them to life for you. I hate listening to books where all the narrators do is read it off to you. Holland always makes the characters come to life and makes the story much more interesting to listen to. He holds my attention where most narrators lose me right off the bat. I always look forward to more of his work.

Well....here Tanner goes again. Off to rescue another woman who got kidnapped and is in trouble. Block really knows how to write a wild and crazy story. This one didn't have as many characters as some of his other Tanner books but it was still interesting and he's always finding a way to make all the mistakes and mishaps work out in his favor. I find this series fun to listen to and always look forward to the chief at the end explaining how this all worked out. This one he actually messed up pretty bad but yet .... low and behold....it still worked out anyway. I do hope he stops jumping from woman to woman for a while and will get back to more of the adventure itself. I can't tell you how many women Tanner has been with during this entire series...I should have kept count because now I'm curious. Holland does a great job as always. He does the women and men's voices and never disappoints. I love listening to his work. Block and Holland make a great duo. To sum it up....I enjoyed the book. It wasn't my favorite of the series but it didn't disappoint. Definitely worth a listen.

This story was full of Mayhem and lots of jungle adventure. Leave it up to Tanner to run off to save a woman he just met and get himself into all kinds of crazy situations along the way. It was an interesting story with way less main characters than the last book. Definitely kept you interested throughout. Dhang will not shut up about having a woman the whole trip....so make sure the kiddos aren't around when you listen to this one. He's quite the funny, but crude character. I was disappointed that Block had switched authors for the second Tanner book ....but at least he went back with Holland again. I love his unique twist to narration and the fact that he brings the characters to life as if you are watching a movie rather than listening to a book. You actually can visualize the characters and scenes and not feel like someone is just mundanely reading it to you. Rather you are carried on an adventure. I always listen to the books Holland narrates and have never been disappointed. I have trouble listening to other audio books now though.....the others seem so drab and boring now. Block and Holland have made a great team with the Tanner series and I look forward to more of their work together.
