Couldn’t get past the first few chapters. The characters were stereotyped and the narrator had a way of making almost every character sound like they can from and old gagster movie. Couldn’t make it through...life is too short for wasting time.

Strong beginning that wanes

Since I've been binging on Paranormal Romances lately, I'm starting to get a feel for the balance that makes this genre so fun. New worlds, new abilities and new relationships allow for a perfect backdrop for the hero and heroine to grow. This book started strong but over time it waned. There seemed to be a shallowness to the storyline and the description of the heroines "gifts" and her magical ability became repetitive.
The voice actress is very strong in other audiobooks, but in this one I became really annoyed with the voice of the mother. She had an oddly grating accent that was cringe worthy and distracted rather than added to the performance.
It's the first book in a series and I tend to get hooked and continue on. This time, I'm going to walk away...disappointed and ears ringing..
