Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Great story overall
Revisado: 10-19-23
The story of the HMS Wager and her crew is quite incredible. Overall this book does a good job of telling that story with a narrative flow that keeps this interesting . Personally, I did like the narration though I see many others did not.
However, this book has one glaring problem. The author really hates white Europeans and boy are you going to hear about it. He takes every opportunity to tell you how awful they are and repeatedly uses the word "civilization" in a sarcastic tone. This is rather ironic considering he is personally benefitting from the fruits of that civilization. There is no doubt that Europeans did commit many atrocities during that era but racism, greed, and violent acts are hardly unique to white Europeans. The book would have been much better off if he set the woke 21st century viewpoint behind and instead relayed the facts in a less biased manner.

I cannot recommend this one enough! I've been learning about WW2 my entire life and yet there are still so many stories to hear. This one certainly stands out. It flows like a novel and the narration was great!

Enjoyed many parts of the book. Did not enjoy the "woke" 21st century perspective. Both sides did terrible things. Just tell it like it was and leave it at that.
