Historia
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

A space opera with a strong cast of characters, this book manages to keep the plot developing well while never losing track of the moral and ethical issues that it delves into.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

The book should come with a warning label: This volume may cause disruptions to the way that you experience reality. Your sense of society, politics, history and even your own identity may be affected. Possible side effects may include a diminished ability to ignore and tolerate discrimination.

More of what you love about Murderbot
Revisado: 05-08-20
Murderbot develops so much as a person in this story, navigating the choppy waters of relationship, loyalty and care for others while, you know, helping to save everyone from extreme peril. If the prior stories show Murderbot struggling to cope with the burden of personhood and its horror of unwanted social encroachment, this book marks its emergence from tortured adolescence into its own snarky form of responsible adulthood, which can be scarier than things that want to pull off its arms. There’s plenty of those too!

Historia
Frederick Buechner has grappled with the nature of pain, grief, and grace ever since his father committed suicide when Buechner was a young boy. He continued that search as a father when his daughter struggled with anorexia. In this essential collection of essays, including one never before published, Frederick Buechner finds that the God who might seem so silent is ever near. He writes about what it means to be a steward of our pain, and about this grace from God that seems arbitrary and yet draws us to his holiness and care.

Historia
With Playing God, Andy Crouch opens the subject of power, elucidating its subtle activity in our E1:AO3 and institutions. He gives us much more than a warning against abuse, though. Turning the notion of "playing God" on its head, Crouch celebrates power as the gift by which we join in God's creative, redeeming work in the world. An essential book for all who would influence their world for the good.

Historia
For a moment, things seemed to be under control for Breq, the soldier who used to be a warship. Then a search of Athoek Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist, and a messenger from the mysterious Presger empire arrives, as does Breq's enemy, the divided and quite possibly insane Anaander Mianaai—ruler of an empire at war with itself. Breq refuses to flee with her ship and crew, because that would leave the people of Athoek in terrible danger. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.

A complex, engrossing story with drama
Revisado: 11-18-17
This story was much faster moving than the second novel in the trilogy , with a number of very interesting plot twists and a great deal of further character development . those who are interested in the philosophical speculation of the series, about how artificial intelligences will relate to others , will be intrigued by not only the story but the way that it resolves .

Historia
On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest. Breq is both more than she seems and less than she was. Years ago, she was the Justice of Toren - a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of corpse soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy. An act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with only one fragile human body.
