Historia
Sharing his extensive and meticulous research, Jacques Privat reveals that the Vikings were in Greenland, its neighboring islands, and the eastern shores of Canada long before Columbus. He examines in depth how Greenland and its surroundings were inhabited for nearly five centuries by two Nordic colonies, Vestribygð and Eystribygð, which disappeared mysteriously: one in 1342 and the other in the 16th century.

Solid aggregation of known research in a way that could support the writer’s hypothesis, but expected more. Narrator was decent.

Historia
For 13 violent months in the 1930s, John Dillinger and his gang swept through the Midwest. The criminals of the Depression robbed almost at will, as the Indiana State Police had only 41 members, including clerks and typists. Dillinger's daring escapes at Crown Point jail or through the withering machine gun fire of FBI agents at Little Bohemia Lodge, along with his countless bank robberies, excited the imagination of a despondent country.

Great book- just know there are inaccuracies
Revisado: 02-11-23
Good book, well written and entertaining. I spotted a lot of inaccuracies and generalities, but as long as you’re not using this as a basis for a scholarly work- highly recommend. I gave it five stars due to it being well written and entertaining, not to mention it currently being free. Even if I’d paid for it, despite spotting inaccuracies- I would feel like I got a good value.

Historia
Peter Dunstan is a big rancher who wants to become bigger, to control more land. So when he buys Dr. Henry Morgan's ranchland that has been unsuccessfully converted to farming, it is his intention to return it to open range. The only stipulation the doctor makes is that Dunstan must retain Sandy Sweyn, who has more or less been Dr. Morgan's ward. Though the man is of age, he is generally considered a half-wit, even by the doctor. Still, Sandy has a fabulous gift: He can communicate with animals.

Historia
It takes a tough mindset to be a successful sniper, to be able to dig in for days on your own as you wait for your target, to stay calm on a battlefield when you yourself have become the target the enemy most wants to take out. Craig Harrison has what it takes, and in November 2009 in Afghanistan, under intense pressure, he saved the lives of his comrades with the longest confirmed sniper kill: 2,475 meters. In this unflinching autobiography, Craig catapults us into the heat of the action as he describes his active service in the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Slow start, but so worth the listen.
Revisado: 04-27-21
I’ve read a lot of psychology books on sociopaths- this sniper had all of the environmental factors associated with one... but, instead- he fought to become more human, despite his profession. He was treated horribly by the UK military... not that ours are any better, but he and his family deserved better. Come to this book to read about being a sniper and stay to learn more about becoming a man.

In this compelling biography, a detailed narrative of grueling life on the ground combines with accounts of some of the most dramatic search and rescue operations of the period to tell the true story of life on the line in the War on Terror.

Revisado: 04-26-21
Good book, but there are better on here for war experience. If you want an insight on the life of service members- this is the book for you. If you want action and to plum the depths of the human experience at war- there are better.

Historia
Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity. While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants.

Highly recommend for the comedy, humanity and the wisdom
Revisado: 12-08-20
Doug Stanhope is more than a comedian and functional alcoholic. He is a humanist and philosopher, gifted with the ability to observe humanity at its worst and try to find a way to make us laugh at the pain. In this book, in a roundabout way through humorous stories about his lack of fame, he eventually gets to the point that fame is completely pointless. It is an anchor around the neck... a cage you are put within. When you accept fame and benefit from it- you give people the right to judge you. He lives a life where that judgment holds no weight. Fame is a lot of effort, but it comes with no long term benefit. In the end, we all eventually die, so we might as well live our lives for ourselves while we are on this planet. Doug has done that... and in the process, it’s amazing he is still alive at all.

Historia
Misanthrope. Iconoclast. Apostate. Drunk. Many words have been used to describe Doug Stanhope, but rarely has “hopeful” been one of them. However, heading into 2016, Stanhope peered through the apocalyptic fog and saw a forecast that was more rainbows than acid rain: His first book was set for release, his new stand-up special was in the can, and he was about to film a television pilot with his friend and confidant Johnny Depp. The only thing that could stop Doug was himself, and that’s exactly what he did.

Funny, but more depth than you might be used to
Revisado: 12-01-20
The genuineness of Doug comes through on this audiobook. He might be a verbal arsonist, but he is still more brilliant than most people realize. Some people might question how much more he could’ve accomplished if sober, but they are missing the point. People with this level of brilliance will blow their brains out if they don’t have a way to dull the voices in their head. He is an American treasure in the same vein as Hunter S. Thompson, just with less firearms and explosives.
