This book is an overview of history of Russia after the end of USSR. It is focused mainly on history of media and journalism, except for the first 4 years of Yeltsin reign. Some important events are briefly mentioned and other are covered from a single point of view. This might provide biased understanding. This shortcoming is can be tolerated because this is the only overview of that period of Russian history that I found on Audible.

Any additional comments?

I was looking for lectures that cover the period right after the middle ages until the 18th century. These lectures cover the wider period, but at the same time they are quite lengthy so I expected to have a detailed overview of the period of interest. However, I could not handle the lecturers way of presentation. His tone of voice is over-enthusiastic that strongly influences my perception of his lectures and makes me believe that he could not perform a comprehensive critical analysis of historical events. With regards to the structure of lectures, professor follows an approach that "the geography and culture is destiny". That makes me think that in his opinion the history is pre-determined, which I don't think is a good way of approaching the history. Unfortunately, I could manage only several lectures from the course, and my opinion might be biased by this. Nevertheless, this is a huge material, and I saved few stars for the review just in case I did not manage to get to the interesting part.

Any additional comments?

I was looking for the lectures that cover the high and late middle ages after finishing the course from Yell by Dr. Freedman which I enjoyed very much. Apparently, these lectures are as good. They are well-structured, informative, entertaining with a bit of humor and detailed. I wish I had the same experience in school.

The renaissance and the reformation, indeed

Any additional comments?

I was looking for the lectures about western history that cover the period between the middle ages and the 18th century. These lectures seemed to be a perfect match. They do provide a connection between the middle ages and the renaissance, though the events from the earlier period were described somewhat sketchy. The main parts of these lectures are the renaissance and the reformation. I did enjoy the reformation part that was presented clear and with a lot of details. I cannot claim the same about the renaissance part. The last part of lectures is about absolutism and scientific revolution. They are described in a rather broad way, so I did not feel that I get a clear connection to the 18th century as I expected.
