"The Monster" is considered one of Crane's top four stories, but is left out of many collections. Don't miss it. It's a wonderful telling about the town of Whilomville, in which Henry Johnson lives and other Crane stories are set as well, including "The Knife".

I have been spoiled by the great artists that Audible hires to read their books. This one is red by an amateur and it's unlistenable.

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Some might suggest that the performance of Harry's character is affected. I would counter that the character himself is as affected as the performance which I found quite effective!

A beautifully written book red flawlessly with depth and humor. Most reading this will be reminded of how it felt to have a President who was stronger, kinder, funnier, and more intelligent than most of us.

Failed Vonnegut wannabe
Revisado: 10-28-20
I know that it's silly to buy a book based on one review appearing in The Week. I am silly. But not as silly as this book. The author strives after wit like an elephant trying to catch a butterfly. His efforts for feeling collapse into sentimentality. I left the bot sitting on a train rattling off the towns of Michigan. I wish him well, but I could not stand his insipid company anymore.

this is a stunningly good story on par with Dickens. there's a lot of science in it, and speaking as a scientist, it's pretty good. Good enough! The performance is flawless!!

Historia
Rabbit, Run is the book that established John Updike as one of the major American novelists of his - or any other - generation. Its hero is Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom, a onetime high-school basketball star who on an impulse deserts his wife and son. He is 26 years old, a man-child caught in a struggle between instinct and thought, self and society, sexual gratification and family duty - even, in a sense, human hard-heartedness, and divine Grace. Though his flight from home traces a zigzag of evasion, he holds to the faith that he is on the right path.

if you are not a professional scientist or philosopher or economist, you will find this book to be very interesting and fun to read a little scary too. if you are in one of those professions, you will still find the book interesting but highly exasperatingly. the author's grasp of the material clearly derives from having read many lay articles. I think that the fault lies equally with the author and his semi present editors

Described by the New York Times as "arguably the most important intellectual alive," Noam Chomsky is known throughout the world for his highly influential writings on language and politics. Featuring two of Chomsky's most popular and enduring books in one omnibus volume, On Language contains some of the noted linguist and political critic's most informal and accessible work to date, making it an ideal introduction to his thought.

Philosophy Democratized??
Revisado: 04-01-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The chief irony of this book is that, in the first chapter, Chomsky upbraids the intellectual elite for using language and complexity with the intent of maintaining power over their realm. He suggests that work should and must be accessible to anyone with a desire to learn. He then proceeds with some of the most convoluted, coded and complex material I have ever been exposed to, constantly referencing other linguists and employing terminology which he never bothers to define. In the end, I ended up with empty hands.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Fajer Al-Kaisi?
Almost anyone. He reading style was beyond wooden. What was the producer thinking in casting him??

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Another in a rather tired genre, poorly read
Revisado: 04-01-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
George Newbern can read. But he has a rather strange tone-deafness in terms of written speech. Once or twice per chapter he will put (or not) an emphasis on a word which indicates that he does not really understand the intent of the sentence. If there was a director involved, it is something that they should have caught. It is simply a lazy production.
Would you be willing to try another book from Fredrik Backman? Why or why not?
I would not. The subject and its execution were rather "pablumatic".
Would you be willing to try another one of George Newbern’s performances?
No, his mistakes were too distracting.
Was A Man Called Ove worth the listening time?
Not really. It's a Grumpy Old Man with a Heart of Gold story.
