Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Narrator saves the day!
Revisado: 11-08-24
Convoluted plots lines, and many characters. Would not recommend this volume for first-time Louise Penny readers. However, the new narrator is a real asset. I much prefer hearing names and places pronounced properly, and his native accent is a true bonus!

As an Audible listener, this book started with such a huge stream of names and relationships that I felt I needed to write them down and chart the relationships.

The narrator’s odd inflections were irksome. Do enjoy the further character/relationship development. Perhaps listening is not the best way to enjoy this book.

Good story, rushed narration
Revisado: 09-25-23
Another good story line from this author! As others have noted, narration was often rushed. *However* it was a joy to have a narrator who did an excellent job with the Italian!

This book had a lot going for it—setting, time, compelling plot. However, the
decision to turn the French policeman into an American-accented “tough guy” simply ruined the entire experience.

Long awaited

Disclosure: have read all HP books as well as the preceding Strike.
A thirty hour audible book? Yes, but unfortunately there are endless tedious readings of messages exchanged on social media between characters. Listening to each complete “handle” address was aggravating, causing lack of attention. It would have been easier to skim written text. I read the Strike books for the interpersonal relationships, but the long message exchanges ruined this one for me. Rowling’s transphobic opinions did not enhance the story either. Hopefully the editors reign the author in for her next Strike.
