Historia
As Van Dorn private detective Isaac Bell strives to land a government contract to investigate John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil monopoly, the case takes a deadly turn. A sniper begins murdering opponents of Standard Oil, and soon the assassin - shooting with extraordinary accuracy at seemingly impossible long range - kills Bell's best witness, a brave and likable man. Best Bell Yet
Revisado: 10-28-16
This book was unusual in that the villain was very surprising. I loved that, and it made me listen to the book again to see how the story built, knowing how it would end. Still wonderful, with a bit of sadness.
A few feats of Bell's seem unbelievable, much like Mission Impossible, but the knowledge of balloons, oil refineries, and electric work are all to be commended. Custler does his homework well.

Historia
When Isaac Bell’s boss and lifelong friend Joseph Van Dorn is shot and nearly killed leading the high-speed chase of a rum-running vessel, Bell swears to him that he will hunt down the lawbreakers, but he doesn’t know what he is getting into. When a witness to Van Dorn’s shooting is executed in a ruthlessly efficient manner invented by the Russian secret police, it becomes clear that these are no ordinary criminals. Bell is up against a team of Bolshevik assassins and saboteurs - and they are intent on overthrowing the government of the United States.

One of the best!
Revisado: 10-12-16
First, I must say that Scott Brick is the best narrator that I've heard. In this book Scott has many accents, and they were, to my ear, flawless.
I really enjoyed this book, except for the death of Harry Warren, and in the end, Fern. Perhaps I'm too much of a "happy ending" listener, but my heart feels a bit heavy after the ending. Overall, a great story - my favorite amongst Mr. Cussler's "Bell" series.

My New Favorite
Revisado: 03-02-16
This is now my favorite Nicholas Sparks book. I loved the two different story lines and time lines. They were totally different cultures and ages, which appealed to me. I should also know by now to have some Kleenex with me while listening to a Sparks book.

Historia
Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life, including boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies, he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door.

Happy Heart!
Revisado: 02-19-16
I was beginning to truly fear where the story was going, but had a happy heart at the end! What a relief!
I did not like the music being included. When it first came on I thought that my phone was acting up, and I couldn't hear the story over the music.

Still...
Revisado: 02-18-16
I'm still heartbroken from "You Before Me". I'm still crying for Louisa. I'm still sad that the author had to, again, include unkindnesses towards Catholics in her book.
Otherwise, this book was a bit slow in places, but had a satisfactory and tranquil ending. I am at peace for Louisa's future. Like a mother, I can let her go now.
The narrator for this book was a bit harder for me to understand at times. She had a lovely voice, but her reading seemed too quiet in places.
