Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

Not his best work
Revisado: 10-12-24
I really liked The Silent Patient but this book didn’t live up to that one. It took too long for the mystery to start unfolding and when it finally did it all happened very quickly and seemed implausible. The narration was great and I liked that he made a few mentions to characters from The Silent Patient so it felt like the two stories were connected.

Not my favorite Amy Harmon novel

What the Wind Knows is one of my all time favorite books so I had high expectations for this one. The character development fell flat and the narration seemed a little forced at times. Huge bummer because there isn’t much Oregon trail historical fiction so I was really looking forward to this.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

I love books about books!
Revisado: 11-12-23
I love reading or listening to books about books, and this one was among the best! As the main character falls in love with reading you see her appreciation and love of stories growing and it made me have a renewed appreciation as well. The narrator is fantastic (she’s the reason I picked this book), and it’s a very unique story in the WWII genre which makes it stand out from all the others. I added quite a few classics to my Audible wishlist as the reader discovered different books and talked about them and am looking forward to listening to those now as well!

Revisado: 07-09-23
I don’t know what I was expecting when I embarked on this very long journey, but this historical masterpiece exceeded all expectations. There were times where I struggled to follow the dense topics covered but for the most part, the flawless narration, rich character development, and beautiful prose more than made up for it. This is unlike any book I’ve ever listened to or will listen to again.

I LOVED Behind Closed Doors and the Breakdown but this one fell a little flat for me. The main character had a bit of a weak personality and some of it felt a little far-fetched. Still suspenseful and great narration though.

Heart wrenching and beautiful
Revisado: 12-25-22
The author bares her soul in this heart wrenching memoir. Her writing is raw and vulnerable and she describes places, smells, and tastes in a way that makes you feel like you’re right there with her. The Netflix mini series doesn’t do this justice. What a special treat that the audiobook is narrated by Tembi herself.

In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right.

Weak female lead
Revisado: 12-08-22
Not a fan. The main character is weak, constantly doubts herself, and the author goes into detail about her eating disorder that (for me) didn’t add any value to the story line. The twists were few and far in between and kind of lackluster. Wish I would’ve skipped this one.
