Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

cliffhanger warning
Revisado: 11-11-24
Once again a brilliant book from Louise Penny. It is full of twist and turns, and always have you wondering who can you trust. But be warned, it has a cliffhanger ending.

Historia
As the London Daily Gazette’s popular gossip columnist, she is extremely adept at sneaking into houses, assuming disguises and overseeing a vast network of spies to ensure she stays abreast of the beau monde’s comings and goings. If it sometimes seems as though she was hiding behind the settee during a particularly fierce quarrel between a husband and his wife, it’s most likely because she was hiding behind the settee during their fierce quarrel.

Fun Read
Revisado: 02-20-23
Love Lynn Massina's cozy regency mysteries. this one was particularly fun to listen to. good reader performance. Slight cliff hanger ending. Can't wait for more in this Lark series. Will have me registering to her related Beatrice Hyde-Clare series to scout out all the gems picked up in this one.

Engaging, brilliant
Revisado: 06-10-22
Dornbush is a master storytelling. Good narration throughout. To let the reader know where you are going from the start and not lose them on the way to the conclusion is a fine art. Believable with great characterization. The personal inner journey of the investigators and witnesses Dornbush created made this book for me.

Historia
Anthony Hamilton cannot help it. The way he looks, the way he lives, his past-it all conspires to make him a man men fear, women desire. His name fills gossip circles in a seemingly endless, lurid drama. But he's never forgotten the only woman he's ever truly wanted. Celia Reece knew Anthony well before he forged his scandalous reputation. The young man she remembers spoke kindly to her, made her laugh, and his devilish good looks always quickened her pulse. But Celia's mother had other designs - designs that didn't include marriage to Anthony. Now, Celia is widowed.

good story bad narrator
Revisado: 03-23-21
The plot was good, but the reading terrible. The narrator keeps tilting up at the end of nearly every line. Totally inappropriate and grating. Upping the readback speed helps a little, but a lot of the fine scenes loose their impact. I caught glimpses of a beautiful book, but had difficulty immersing myself into the story because of the bad intonation.

Great
Revisado: 01-06-20
Natasha Anders knows how to tell a story. Her characters have depth. The narration was also well above average.
