The winds of conspiracy whirl around him, and everyone from the police commissioner to gang lords warn him to step back. Taking the easy way out isn’t in his nature, however. He’s gotten where he is by being stubborn and a chance to knock a corrupt bank down a peg is too good to pass up. But all isn’t well with his partners, the police’s elite Archangels.

First series I've read from Ajax and I'm quite enjoying it.

Great start to hopefully a much longer series. I had fun learning about Gutter and his past. Side characters were good. Some I like more than others, but overall solid I didn't find any of them annoying. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes next.

Historia
The local wolffolk mafia longs for their glory days, and their alluring don, Alessia Lionetti, wants a powerful enforcer to bring them back. That's Vince. This is his big break from his days as a hired thug. Working for the mafia has a short life expectancy, though. Especially in a world where the masquerade shattered long ago. Demons run banks, birdfolk ferry people across town, and the police possess crack teams of sorcerers to keep the peace. Bad news for Vince and his dreams of mafia wealth.

I did not want to purchase an ASMR audiobook.
Revisado: 07-04-19
If you're into creepy ASMR(badly done) with what sounds like an out of shape person struggling for breath speaking into the microphone well then gosh golly I have the book for you.
Not sure I'm even going to finish the book even though I've heard great things about the story, can't get over the slurps and the heavy breathing.
The several hours I've put in make me kind of intrigued and I might go pick up the book hence the three stars for story.

Historia
The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

First read 2/5, Second read 5/5
Revisado: 04-11-19
First off let me say the performance from Ralph Lister is amazing. I've read this series twice and only recently picked it up on audible. His performance kept me hooked through each book even though I was already familiar with the story.
Now as to why I say first time read 2/5 and second time 5/5 is simple, this book/series is so damn confusing, at least until half way through book three. It was on my third attempt, yes twice I gave up before managing to finish Gardens of the Moon.
Worse yet, the second book adds nearly an entire new set of characters that just leaves you scratching your head as to what the hell this series about. I nearly stopped reading the second book but managed to push my way through.
I know, at this point you are probably asking why I gave it a five star rating. Well, if you make it past book two PLEASE READ THE THIRD! Halfway through everything stats to click and the series went from I'm "sort of interested" to "I can't put it down!"
When I recommend this series to friends it's with a lot of caveats, as well as saying there are 11 books in the series because once you have read all ten books you need to revisit Gardens of the Moon. Once you understand the world and are familiar with the characters this book is amazing.
Steven Erikson has written my all time favorite series and at least for me, there is nothing else I've encountered like it. I can't go more than a few years now without revisiting this series just to remember how truly epic it is.
