Historia
Perfect for fans of Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli, Mason Deaver's groundbreaking debut will rip your heart out before showing you how to heal from tragedy and celebrate life in the process. When Ben De Backer comes out to their parents as nonbinary, they're thrown out of their house and forced to move in with their estranged older sister, Hannah, and her husband, Thomas, whom Ben has never even met. Struggling with an anxiety disorder, they come out only to Hannah, Thomas, and their therapist and try to keep a low profile in a new school.

SO GLAD I downloaded
Revisado: 10-02-19
Not my usual go-to genre, but I'm so thankful I took the chance! I learned so much and it was such a beautiful
and sweet love story. I may not be on the queer spectrum myself, but the story was still very relatable and the characters extremely realistic.

Warning: Beware body negativity
Revisado: 02-27-19
Not a body positive book for sure. Lots of jokes at the expense of heavier people, even though the main character used to carry more weight herself. Main character definitely has body issues, but I guess we're supposed to ignore it cause she's hot now, everything is ok! *says sarcastically*
I still love Dakota Cassidy for her lighthearted and original plots, but am disappointed by this revelation. I just want to warn people about the nature of this book for those that may feel triggered.

Catherine Grier seemed to have it all - money, prestige, and a beach house that would rival the Hamptons. But an old scar buried deep in her soul hides a life filled with loneliness and painful memories...until a dusty old book lands in her lap, sending her back in time to 1767 and into the arms of Lord Bryne Adair.

Not worth finishing.
Revisado: 02-05-19
The first thing I noticed were the exaggerated voices for certain characters. I was willing to give that a pass, but as the story continued it was clear voices weren't the only over the top part of this book! (maybe you could argue the narrator did a GOOD job matching the feeling of the book, lol) All the characters were extreme versions of their stereotype and one-dimensional. The events were similarly extreme. You would hardly tell what time period she had traveled to, if not said directly. Sometimes she acted like she was 800 years in the past, not 250! I finally told myself I had to stop trying to read when she told her male counterpart (someone who had just ordered someone to hanged) that murder and assault is worse in the 21st century.

Rainbow sprinkles and unicorn kisses
Revisado: 07-27-16
Had to force myself to read this one because I can't stand the narrator. Practically every sentence ends the same way, sounding like a reporter reading depressing news headlines.

Feel-Good rom-com with quirks and twists
Revisado: 04-14-16
What did you love best about See Bride Run!?
While seemingly a typical romantic comedy, this fun and feel-good book has quirkiness and twists that make it stand out from the bunch. I enjoyed reading about the eclectic group of townspeople and their crazy lives. I've read and watched many books/movies in this genre, so considering the fact that this book kept my interest and even had a few surprises, that says a lot! My main criticism would be that the beginning of the story felt very rushed and we didn't quite get enough time to get to know the characters. I kept having to remind myself that Annie used to be rich for example. The author would _tell_ us about the characters, but never really _showed_ us. Why did Annie and Sam hate each other so much from the beginning is another example. It felt like the author knew these characters so well that she kind of forgot that we didn't. We're just supposed to accept everything without evidence, but it felt like I was missing part of the story. I wish I was better at explaining these thoughts. I definitely understand if you don't understand, haha. In the end I am glad I read the book and might look for others by the author in the future.

2. I strive to fully use all 5 stars. A 3 star rating still means I liked the book!
3. Just like I don't expect my skittles to taste like fine dark chocolate, I don't expect (or even want) my fun paranormal romance books to be in the same category as classic literature. Therefore I try to avoid a lot of comparisons.

Using my supernatural powers, I pick up extra cash working with the local PD. I'm their go-to girl when they have someone they need to find. Despite all of this, my life is pretty boring - that is, until the very hot Detective Nick Cavanaugh came into my life. Boy, did we get off on the wrong foot. I was asked to pair up with Detective Cavanaugh to look for three missing children. Did I mention that he doesn't believe in my superpowers?

Perfectly hit the spot

This book was exactly what I'd been craving, what I needed! The lightness, humor, and matter of fact style was perfect to lift my mood while still providing an intriguing plotline and multidimensional characters. It touched on some serious subjects and always kept my mind engaged and guessing. Sometimes I feel a book is "dumbed down" in the effort to be light-hearted, but this wasn't the case here. I wouldn't doubt that for some people, the style is too silly and doesn't hold a candle to other mystery novels in terms of depth and complexity. But I believe it perfectly served its purpose in being fun and quirky. It's not trying to be anything else, you can't compare! In the end, Lightning Strikes not only allowed me to have a break from "real life" and get lost in Andromeda's world - exactly what I wanted - but it wasn't all fluffy clouds and unicorns like many books of the same genre. This makes it for me one of those rare books that I covet, because you can never seem find them when you need them or try to look for them. When you're feeling sick, in pain (like me), had a bad breakup, or whatever rotten burden life has thrown at you, THIS is the book you want. Not every book has that magical formula that can actually make me forget or even distract me from my chronic pain, but this one does and I only wish there were many more in the series so I could stock them up like medicine, haha. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener.
