She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done. But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night. Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 06-06-24
I cannot believe I forced myself to finish this book. The writing was atrocious. It felt like a middle school essay with poor sentence structure, no depth in the characters, and a ridiculous storyline. It was so bad. And the narration!? Oof, that was brutal. I will intentionally avoid that lady's grating voice in all future books. It's like she was trying to sound young/juvenile with a forced rasp, but it was executed so poorly. Her normal voice was used in the ending credits and was fine, why didn't she just talk normally!?

Great Story. Awful Natrator
Revisado: 12-29-23
I love JT Ellison, I've either read or listened to every single one of her books. The narrator chosen for this one was a huge miss, though. Her voice sounds like she's trying desperately to have a throaty husky voice but it's unnatural and monotone. Her sentences are very staccato. Start, Stop. No flow of conversation. No enthusiasm. No "umph' that makes you get lost in the story. Her nasal passage sounds blocked like she had a cold but was on cold meds to try and help. It has been an absolute struggle to get through because how awful and elementary her narration has been. I will sort this narrator out specifically to avoid a y future books read by her.

I enjoyed the story, the twists and turns, but it was fairly predictable. Of course he was behind it all, of course he would take the kid, and of course she would prevail in the end. It was still entertaining, despite that. However, the narrator was DREADFUL at the American accent. Why did every single American character sound identical? Until she said “Jessa said” or whomever, you’d think every character was Ethan. It was so, so bad. Great for the British parts, but hire a second narrator for the others.

suffered through it
Revisado: 06-27-21
I think out of the 4625 audio books I've ever listened to, this might be the first review I've written but I'm hoping my mistake can someone else from making it. This story was awful. I kept waiting for the point of it, to understand the purpose of the story, but there was literally none. Basic summary: naive divorcee with moron kid discovers masturbation then sleeps with boy her sons age. I cannot believe I listened to the end; it literally could have been a 15 minute short story to get through the entire "plot." I encourage you not to waste your time, money, or credit. it was so, so bad, I just can't explain it.

painful
Revisado: 02-14-19
this was probably one of the worst books I've ever listened to. I don't know if the story itself was terrible, or if the narrator made it that much worse. She was Dreadful and made this book painful to get through. No voice differentiation between the characters oh, very blah in her delivery. I would never listen to another book by this narrator. the story itself wasn't that great either, but it might have been better with somebody else telling the story.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Terrible narrator!
Revisado: 06-11-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The narrator is so whiny and annoying! I could only get through 3 chapters before I went out and bought the book. I would NOT recommend this series as an audiobook - I couldn't imagine HOURS of her voice. I actually made a few friends listen to see what their thoughts were and they agreed they her voice was absolutely dreadful!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?
ANYONE ELSE!
