I Finally Get It!!!
Revisado: 02-27-25
This book has explained, in a kind way, what is "wrong" with me. I have inadvertently triggered people my entire life and I never knew why or how to fix myself. I have enjoyed listening to this book so much that I plan on listening to it again. I also plan to purchase a print edition so that I can bookmark sections that pertain to specific challenges and solutions. I can't thank this author enough for giving me a new outlook on life, work, and relationships! 10 out of 10 recommend.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

I do not read a lot of biographies or autobiographies. I could not pass up a chance to learn more about our newest Supreme Court Justice however. I am so glad that I did. All at once, this audio book is educational, inspiring, entertaining and extremely human.
I completely relate to her journey of coming from humble beginnings to becoming a well-educated woman. I highly recommend this book.

On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Loved Every Second of It
Revisado: 07-17-13
This audio book moves really quickly. The story is well written. It is descriptive, but it does not bore the reader with mundane details. I found myself wishing for a longer commute just to see what would happen next. The combination of action, suspense and romance mixed with a message that rings true here in the present makes for an excellent listen. Hopefully, the next book in the series will be just as good.

Romance and adventure while traveling through time
Revisado: 12-05-12
I was thoroughly entertained by this book. I listened to it on my long drive to visit my mother in another state during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I enjoyed the characters who all had such bold, yet different personalities. Thanks to the combination of Susanna Kearsley's writing and Nicola Barber's narration, I could picture each of the characters as if they were standing right in front of me.
The only area of improvement that I would point out is the way Nicola Barber would suddenly lose a character's accent while reading their part. It was a little distracting at times.
Overall, however, I thought the audio book was well done. It brought to mind one of my favorite movies, Somewhere In Time. Only in this book, the woman is the one who goes back in time.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
