the narrator sounded like the charactor Tim from the movie bachelor party... you know, the one who does engine work on BMW's and pees standing up. the wisdom of this book is probably very salient for many people out there, but to me it was a bunch of mamby pamby pseudo psychobabble.

the information was interesting, but as far as i know the author isn't a doctor. i would need to research other sources before before i could give this any credence. i know that the recommendation of 500mg zinc/day as a precursor to thyroxine hormone is a really high dose of zinc and potentially dangerous.

wow, this is an amazing work of fiction. I picked it up on sale, but something this good is hard to put a price on. suffice it to say it's worth it if you pay full price. The thing I've always loved about good fiction, is that there is more truth in it than any non-fiction book you're likely to come across, and yes that's taking into account the fact that the main character is a minotaur.

This story is set in the south in what feels like the eighties, and reminds me quite a bit poetry i've read by Joe Bolton. I often suffer from feeling alone, and it usually hits me worst in a room full of people I know and love. listening to this book I know i'm not alone in what I feel. inertia and chance have a lot to do with how our lives unfold, and this concept is brought beautifully to bear in the form of the minotaur. the actions of the beast don't always make good sense, but that's kind of the point, he's a minotaur after all.

the narrator Holter Graham was excellent as well, and really brought the characters and the prose to life. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another book that he has narrated, or that the author Steven Sherrill has written. in fact the last hour of the book, I couldn't pull myself away. I hate books with a crappy ending, but this one did not disappoint. I could go on and on, but really quit reading this and do yourself a favor, buy the book.

growing up geek in the 80's

I grew up geek in the 80's and this was a good romp. I binged on this audible title over a weekend while watching old movies (time bandits, dragon slayer, conan, holy grail, blade runner, clash of the titans, blood of heroes, war games, etc.), playing Diablo III(probably should have played gauntlet), and drinking (vodka) and I had a lot of fun. this title is filled with 80's computers (sorry no kaypro but there was a colecovision mention), computer games, arcade games, movies, tv shows, role playing games, comics... or at least copious mentions of said media reminding me a bit of leaves of grass. a couple highlights for me were the mentions of Hawk the Slayer, and Roger Zelazny which are relatively obscure yet still great memories for me.

unfortunately the plot was also right out of the 80's, it reminded me of the movie scavenger hunt, only shoe horned into the dark future in an MMO with technology that wet dreams are made of (though to be honest I'm hoping we'll have better by 2045). the characters are as well defined and fleshed out as the graphics on the karate champ arcade game(though the constant geek trivia one-up-manship did bring me right back to highschool). the narration by wesley crusher was obviously a good choice, I just wish he had improved on his acting and vocalizations in the 25 years since st tng. I continually found myself re-reading the lines in my head and adding the inflection I would have read it with had I actually read the book.

I also think the audio would have been greatly improved if they added some sound effects as well. I know it's not standard format, but a title like this cries out for it. while I did listen to dead man's party at the opening, and I could hear in my head ALL of the video game sound effects, and the tv theme songs, and the depeche mode remixes, it still would have been that much more awesome to take advantage of the audio format and add that extra level of immersion to it.

all that being said, it was a fun page turner that didn't require any brain cells(or page turning) for me to follow along. I had a great time with it for what it is. it is not war and peace, it is not even original. it is an 80's flashback with an MMO twist and it will bring you right back to high school (assuming you're not there now or have yet to be). if you grew up geek in the 80's (or want to know what that was like), it's cannon, otherwise you probably won't find much to it.
