Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Revisado: 09-17-21
I’ve read the Hobbit a couple of times in the past and listened to the older audio book but this was by far the best experience I’ve had revisiting this story. Andy Serkis made the book come alive in a way it never has before for me. Absolutely loved it!

Historia
Classical physics is about how things move, why they move, and how they work. It's about making sense of motion, gravity, light, heat, sound, electricity, and magnetism, and seeing how these phenomena interweave to create the rich tapestry of everyday experience. It is, in short, the hidden order of the universe.

Great overview of classical physics!
Revisado: 09-11-15
The lecturer does an excellent job of explaining some of the primary concepts of classical physics. He doesn't use a lot of math in teaching the concepts, rather he helps create a visual of what is actually going on. I am using this series as I go through a physics textbook to help reinforce the concepts that I am learning about.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Looking forward to the sequel
Revisado: 08-21-15
This was another fun read by author, Ernest Cline. I really enjoyed "Ready Player One" so I was looking forward to "Armada" and it did not disappoint. Cline continued his use of mixing in his favorite pop-culture references, just like he did in his first book.
The story itself was fun and intriguing. Will Wheaton returns to narrate, and he was enjoyable to listen to once again. This time around he attempted to use different voices for several characters, which helped add to the overall performance.
The only thing is the story felt a little rushed. That said, it is still a very good story and it is set up well for a sequel or maybe even a trilogy. I could see this making a good movie, and if Ready Player One is a success in the box office, I imagine that we will see Armada on the big screen in the near future too...which would be AWESOME!!!

Historia
Well into the 21st century, our species continues to participate in beliefs and customs that seem more suited to the Bronze Age than the Information Age, some of which involve poisonous snakes, holy smoke, urine bubbles, crystals, tarot cards, aliens, costumed virgins, and, of course, an offering plate. Join Seth Andrews for a random romp across the planet and a humorous look at some of humanity's Sacred Cows.

A great addition to the physical book.
Revisado: 07-25-15
I purchased the physical copy Sacred Cows as well as the audiobook and both are great! Seth is a wonderful storyteller, and I love how he adds his own personal style to this audio version of his book. I recommend purchasing the physical book as well for the illustrations by Vincent Deporter.

Historia
You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me. And that’s when you met me." A short story about the universe.

I listened through this audio book twice. At eight minutes long, that was easy to do. It is a very enjoyable and thought provoking short story, that is well worth your time.

Much better than the movie
Revisado: 04-25-14
I enjoyed The Lost World movie, but the book is so much better. And the two are almost entirely different. As far as the narration goes, Scott Brick delivers a solid performance here, but it isn't anything spectacular.
This book is the source of many of my nightmares. Dinosaurs may have gone extinct 65 million years ago, but that doesn't stop them from showing up in my dreams. That is because some of the scenes in this book are absolutely terrifying. It isn't a horror book though. It is a sophisticated science fiction thriller. You'll probably end up even learning a thing or two from this book. That's because Crichton manages to weave in a lot of real science into a very exciting story.
Of course, make sure you listen to or read Jurassic Park first. It isn't fundamental to the understanding of The Lost World, but it is such an incredible story that you'll simply be missing out if you don't.

Possibly my favorite audiobook!
Revisado: 04-25-14
Stephen Fry delivers an absolutely phenomenal narration to what is one of the best books ever written. I've tried to listen to the sequels, but they are just not the same without the brilliant narration by Fry. Honestly, I think that the performance by Fry makes this audiobook the best way to experience Douglas Adams' one of a kind story.
This book is pure fun. Come discover the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. It is here, right in this book!

Historia
Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day?

A magical experience
Revisado: 04-23-14
Richard Dawkins creates a sense of awe and wonder of the universe that we live in, while dispelling the many myths and fairytales that have crept up over the history of humanity. The true story is far more exciting than the false myths that are perpetuated throughout societies.
The narration is outstanding and is among the most professional that I have heard. Richard and Lalla are an excellent team and a true joy to listen to.
This book covers a range of subjects such as evolution, what a rainbow is, how we know the distance to different stars and more. Several myths are examined as well, but there is no actual "magic" here. Rather, Dawkins masterfully shows how everything has a natural and rational explanation behind it.
I absolutely enjoyed this audiobook and recommend it listeners of all ages.
