Historia
Christine discovered long distance backpacking while surfing the internet at work. She decided that day to attempt to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. One adventure led to another and a few years later she set out on the Wonderland Trail in Mt Rainier National Park. Her Rugged Outdoors Woman persona started as a joke, a nod to the outdoor adventurer that she wished to be. But in the years since, she has come into her own as a backpacker, rock climber, and trail runner. This book is a testament to the decision to name who you want to be and make it so.

Awful.
Revisado: 01-28-25
Get a pro to read it. The voice of the author did not bring anything that made the story any more tolerable. Her parents give her every advantage, love, a good home….which she neglects while her parents are away, and then blames her Mom for all of her problems. Typical. Her Mom gets sick and she isn’t there when her Mom needs her. Let’s not even get into her other life choices. Excessive drinking and random sex….. This book was supposed to be about hiking. I quit listening after an hour. Note to self….listen to the 4-5 minute sample before buying. Save your money!

Historia
Once a person hikes a long trail, they catch the bug, but does it get any easier the second time around? Four years after starting the Appalachian Trail with his brother, Brian takes to the Continental Divide Trail for his second thru-hike in familiar company. However, trail life is not always as rewarding and romantic as the pictures you see or second-hand stories you hear.

He went on and on and on. Tell us about the trail. Not every single thought that went through your head.

Where fore art thou Stephen King?
Revisado: 11-18-23
Where do I begin….the constant Covid, masking, Trump hate, along with lots of other whiny BS that I did NOT buy this book for. No matter what your political leanings, we should not have to hear it in a book we are reading/listening to for enjoyment and a bit of escapism. It was a sheer force of will to continue past the fifth chapter. This only because I was so concerned about Barbara. From now on, I will seriously take into consideration all of the reviews BEFORE I purchase, which I’ve never done before. This book made my head hurt from slamming it against the wall every time I heard blathering on about something that could EASILY been left out of this book. The narrator does a good job and I know that everyone misses “the other guy”. It is a story being told through a woman’s view after all. Geez. Over all…..Buyer beware!

Historia
Take a Hike! is the story of one man's journey on the 2,167 mile long Appalachian Trail. Tim Hewitt, whose trail name was Paddler, talks about trip planning and preparation and shares with you his daily journal for his six month adventure. He is joined on the trip by his 13-year-old son David for five weeks in the summer. David's journal and perspective are also included. This book is not intended to be an all-inclusive planning guide for your Appalachian Trail thru-hike, but it does contain information that the author believes will help you succeed in your own adventure.

The mispronunciation of many words/locations was maddening.
Revisado: 04-16-23
The story was just ho-hum. The planning section, what he packed and where he shipped is really unnecessary as many places since his writing have gone away. The story itself was a bit weak, not horrible, but just not as rich as other tales of the AT, or any other hiking journal. The mispronouncing of MANY commonly used words though, geeeeez! My least favorite book about a hike. Ever.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.
