Historia
The revised and updated edition of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's modern classic about the psychology of combat, hailed by the Washington Post as "an illuminating account of how soldiers learn to kill and how they live with the experiences of having killed". In World War II, only 15 to 20 percent of combat infantry were willing to fire their rifles. In Korea, about 50 percent. In Vietnam, the figure rose to more than 90 percent. The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill.

Narrator needs to finish his sentences
Revisado: 11-21-17
Beginning of the book droned on a bit too much, repeating topics and points too often. It didn't move along fast enough. You think to yourself, yea I get it already. Middle to the end of the book is worth the listen. Author discusses how our society accepts and embraces a killing culture from TV to video games, etc. The Author/Narrator needs to "finish" his sentences. Every sentence ended in a whisper. I listened while driving and had to turn the volume way up so I could hear the last two words of every sentence. Trying to hear and understand was frustrating until I turned it up.

What if we could hit the reset button on the way we create money, work, commerce, and community? This is not an idle question, for technology now enables us to hit that reset button and organize the creation of money, work, commerce, and community in new ways. If we could start from scratch, what would a new system look like? To answer that, we must understand why the current system is failing. The current system is based on five principles that are assumed to be true.

Narrator needs to slow down
Revisado: 08-17-17
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
subject matter was interesting. Very difficult to comprehend the subject matter because the narrator speaks too fast. annoying. Almost didn't listen to the whole book.
What did you like best about this story?
Subject matter was very interesting. Can't say I agree with all of it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Leslie James’s performances?
No. Tried listening at 3/4 speed but that was worse because it sounded like the narrator was stoned on pot. Audible needs to computer alter the narration by introducing small gaps/spaces between words to space out and slow down the read.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
NA
Any additional comments?
I work as a Manufacturing Engineer. and I can tell you the US will be in serious trouble within the next 10 years. There simply are not enough young people "in-the-pipeline" to replace babyboomer aged Toolmakers, Machinists, Engineers, etc. Our manufacturing will grind to a slow crawl. Robots can't do it all.

Historia
David Stockman was the architect of the Reagan Revolution that was meant to restore sound money principles to the U.S. government. It failed, derailed by politics, special interests, welfare, and warfare. Stockman describes how the working of free markets and democracy has long been under threat in America and provides a surprising, nonpartisan catalog of the corrupters and defenders. His analysis shows how both liberal and neoconservative interference in markets has proved damaging and often dangerous.

Great book - difficult listen
Revisado: 07-27-14
What did you like best about this story?
The book really opens your eyes to how corrupt Wall Street is and how the government supports crony capitalism. I have listened to David Stockman on the internet and he doesn't speak the way this book was written. It is almost like an editor or someone took David Stockman's real words and "spruced up" the language to make it seem more important. The problem is they went crazy with it. The editor should be ashamed to put such a good book into print like that.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

can't listen to just once
Revisado: 05-28-13
What made the experience of listening to Man's Search for Meaning the most enjoyable?
This book you must listen to more than once. Listening to books does not allow a person the time to stop and think about a profound statement. So listening more than once allows these philosophical moments to "soak in". I've listened to this book 3 times and will listen to it several more times. Very good book.

Historia
In March 2008, Bear Stearns, a swashbuckling 84-year-old financial institution, was forced to sell itself to JPMorgan Chase for an outrageously low price in a deal brokered by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who was desperately trying to prevent the impending catastrophic market crash. But mere months before, an industry-wide boom had "the Bear" clocking a record high stock price. How did a giant investment bank with $18 billion in cash on hand disappear in a mere 10 days?

Historia
What kind of mischief can result from misunderstanding the monetary system? The work of 2 obscure Scottish chemists destroyed the presidential prospects of William Jennings Bryan, as well as Franklin D. Roosevelt's decision to appease a few senators from the American West who helped communism triumph in China, are just 2 such mishaps cited in this important work by Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman. This accessible work also provides an in-depth discussion on the creation of value.

Money Mischief
Revisado: 01-17-10
Excellent book for understanding money. I thought the audio quality was lacking though. I listen to books with an ipod plugged into my cars' sound system. There is just something about the recorded acoustics or how it was recorded that makes it very difficult to listen to in the car. I had to listen to it through my ipod and earplugs.
