Overall, I enjoyed this quick and easy listen on floating. I appreciated how grounded the author was. He definitely promotes alternative therapies (obviously) like floating and other non-pharmaceutical treatments for ailments. However, he is clear to say that alternative therapies usually work best when joined by more traditional therapies. For example, taking a prescription for depression is great for giving you a window of time to peacefully work on other skills - like getting to the root cause of depression and addressing it through talk therapy, exercise, healthy eating, etc. I thought he would be against medication initially, but it turns out he really isn’t. He is a fan of holistic treatments that address a whole person: including meds, faith, meditation, alternative therapies, and of course, floating.

I thought the delivery of the book was nicely paced and his speaking voice was easy to listen to. I just began floating and appreciated his book. If you have floated a few times, are enjoying it, and are looking to get a better in-depth review of the practice, I recommend this book. There is a bit of a sales pitch at the end to buy his company’s float tanks, but I don’t think it’s a detriment to the book or excessive in nature. I think it’s a smart move and good information to add in at the end of the book, if a person is going to take that leap to having their own tank.

The author seems genuine and like he really just wants people who suffer to find a way through the muck - and maybe floating will be one important component of doing just that.

Wow. I must admit I do not believe I have ever read a book written by a Muslim, at least not one about Islam. I am a Christian, and haven't ever listened deeply about issues pertaining to another religion. I have received my knowledge from the surface level of social media posts and newspaper headlines highlighting death and destruction. Omar reads the letters himself, which adds to the intimacy and heartfelt nature of his message. He urges everything from brave questioning to logical thought to fierce compassion and understanding. He is a brilliant man, in both head knowledge and heart knowledge, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone of any faith. This is my surprising book find of the last year. My only regret is this is his only published book and I want to hear more.
