Historia
During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she’s delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move. As war erupts among the stars, Kira is launched into a galaxy-spanning odyssey of discovery and transformation. First contact isn’t at all what she imagined, and events push her to the very limits of what it means to be human. While Kira faces her own horrors, Earth and its colonies stand upon the brink of annihilation. Now, Kira might be humanity’s greatest and final hope....

Bland military sci-fi with few redeeming qualities.
Revisado: 05-16-24
As bland and uninteresting a book as you could ever read. couldn't finish this drivel. Standard mold characters all the way. Stereotypic and shallow. Character gets blamed for circumstances that are obviously not her fault by implausibly gritty and confrontational shipmates. then there's hours of blaming herself and agonizing over her choices.
Predictably, she joins up with marines. Ah yes. the hero joining up with damned marines. And they, of course, are all grim faced, no nonsense, hostile to everyone, unprofessional, straight of the most used mold of sci-fi. Delivering their stereotypical "this is what I imagine a hardass would sound like" lines every damned time they open their mouths.
No world building. Aliens appearing out of nowhere guns blazing. There is never a time when danger isn't imminent, so that we can have more scenes of marine hardasses doing hard marine things. a glimpse of something interesting, like the short description of some alien artefact or city, but hurry it along so we can have more combat scenes . boring, predictable, and a negative net worth. my life was wasted.

Historia
Rosalyn Devar is on the run from her famous family, the bioengineering job she's come to hate, and her messed-up life. She's run all the way to outer space, where she's taken a position as a "space janitor", cleaning up ill-fated research expeditions. But no matter how far she goes, Rosalyn can't escape herself. After too many mistakes on the job, she's given one last chance: take care of salvaging the Brigantine, a research vessel that has gone dark, with all crew aboard thought dead. But the Brigantine's crew are very much alive - if not entirely human.

Well written and entertaining horror story.
Revisado: 11-12-21
I was continually entertained throughout the book and found the story to be stimulating. Even when I couldn't really identify with the characters (Main character is a bit fragile) and their choices, it was never to the degree that it bothered me at all. The horror theme, while not entirely original (watch/read the expanse and you'll know) is still a fresh perspective. The book is let down *slightly* by the narrator which tends to whisper where no whispers are wanted though I got used to it during the telling of the story. That said, the narrator does a wonderfull job of setting the mood of the story. Highly reccomended.

Bleh. Bland and uninteresting.
Revisado: 09-02-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Less insecure girl simulator, less detail about every fricking muffin the "hero" eats.
Has Written in Red turned you off from other books in this genre?
Certainly has turned me off any books by this Author
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It could be refunded.

Historia
In The Waste, every fantasy creature, fairytale demon, or mythological monster exists. From orcs, to neriads, ogres, trolls, wraiths, elves, harpies, and even beastmen. They all exist, and all despise humankind. In the ruins of the west and east coasts, new governments have arisen. With new jobs. Vince is a Ranger, a profession whose sole job duty is surviving in the waste, and taking missions from the Ranger Guild. Be it courier services, escorts, or simply exploring tombs and cities.

Sad erotica forced into poor story.
Revisado: 08-15-17
Would you try another book from Randi Darren and/or Andrea Parsneau?
Never. what utter drivel.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Anything but this
Which character – as performed by Andrea Parsneau – was your favorite?
The performance was fine, you just can't polish crap.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No. Even the erotica was bland and boring.
Any additional comments?
Stay away form this if you want a good story. There is potential for an actual story here with all the post apocalyptical magical undertones, but the author forgets it and goes off to write porn instead. It's like he (?) wrote book after having a wet dream. Bland. bland. bland.

Unimaginitive and poorly read
Revisado: 01-21-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Was ok, narrator poor, espessially voice acting.
Would you be willing to try another book from L. E. Modesitt Jr? Why or why not?
I'd buy more books, yes. The author is somewhat inconsistent in quality though (for sci-fi and fantasy)
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of William Dufris?
Don't know about names, buit someone who doesn't read too much into the characters and situations they are in. The narration frankly irritated me with this book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
NO.
