Historia
The year is 1876. Warring Indian tribes still populate America's western territories, even as lawless gold-rush towns begin to mark the landscape. In much of the country, it is still illegal to espouse evolution. Against this backdrop two monomaniacal paleontologists pillage the Wild West, hunting for dinosaur fossils while surveilling, deceiving, and sabotaging each other in a rivalry that will come to be known as the Bone Wars.

Jurassic Park's Inspiration!
Revisado: 04-30-25
Historical fiction that ended up being the inspiration for the Jurassic Park books as well as the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movie franchises. It has all the passion of paleontology from the beginning and develops things in that direction. it's really nice to see what inspired my favorite book and movie series. if only he knew just how beloved his work would become.

A unique story with some facts learned along the way conveniently, giving it a more obvious feel of fiction. Facts are straightened out at the end.

Historia
"There is the mammal way and there is the bird way." But the bird way is much more than a unique pattern of brain wiring, and lately, scientists have taken a new look at bird behaviors they have, for years, dismissed as anomalies or mysteries - what they are finding is upending the traditional view of how birds conduct their lives, how they communicate, forage, court, breed, survive. They are also revealing the remarkable intelligence underlying these activities, abilities we once considered uniquely our own.

Just so fascinating and informative. I loved everything about this book..... Except some of the more unusual violent behaviors like Eclectus killing their male offspring to speed the growth of a female offspring.

The Power of Forgiveing
Revisado: 03-26-25
This book makes the movie look like they were trying to portray Ariel Castro as a "saint". So many more of the sick details are revealed and it makes where Michelle Knight all that more jaw dropping. Her ability to forgive and her faith in and gratitude towards God is truly amazing.
It breaks my heart even more that she was unable to reunite with her son Joey. Her stand on this is truly selfless. I hope so much that they will be able to reunite at least when Joey is in his adulthood. Hopefully she submits her DNA sample to 23 And Me as well as Ancestry as a way to help Joey find her if his adoptive parents aren't honest or helpful to for him.
Wow... Just wow.

apparently they're making a movie of this great book! I hope they cast the guy from Breaking Bad as the teacher. I won't be able to picture it otherwise as being good.
Way different than The Martian like it's not in the same universe so to speak.

Conquered Hatred
Revisado: 09-20-24
Wow, WW2 as told through the eyes of some very unique characters. A Hawaii boy who witnessed the horror of Pearl Harbor, a Japanese girl, and a 1/2 Japanese 1/2 Aboriginal boy.
The book covers a lot of racism and goes in circles there a bit. A little cliché but not terribly preachy. Recording quality is a bit tiny and echoy in places but is understandable.
All in all, great book!

Thought Provoking But NOT A Noval
Revisado: 09-14-24
Eco Terrorism sounds like an exciting topic.... But this reads more like an adult version of The Magic School Bus the way it drones on about facts while ignoring character building and anything to do with the actual story line. You have to get 4/5ths through the book before anything interesting happens!

He was named "Sham" for the sun, this golden red stallion born in the Sultan of Morocco's stone stables. Upon his heel was a small white spot, the symbol of speed. But on his chest was the symbol of misfortune. Although he was as swift as the desert winds, Sham's proud pedigree would be scorned all his life by cruel masters and owners.
