I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Pretty good, kept me interested
Revisado: 09-03-23
I’ve been having a hard time finding audiobooks that keep me engaged. This one was actually better than I expected. It is a sort of slow burn, but written well enough that I didn’t get bored. I like the narrator.
I did catch on to the first twist early on, but wasn’t sure. Then when it was confirmed in the story, I was right. However, there was a lot that I couldn’t have guessed. Not every book is amazing, so by saying that this book was pretty good and an average interesting thriller, that’s a good review from me. I will check out more audiobooks from this author.

Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Hysterically funny- one of my best random discoveries!
Revisado: 07-21-23
I discovered this book completely by random while browsing for titles included with Audible Plus. I use Plus to try different types of books that I might be otherwise afraid to try and I can honestly say this book would be well worth a credit if you like paranormal books with female leads and comedy. I was afraid it would be “chick lit” and that’s a genre I rarely go for, but it doesn’t feel like that to me, I feel it’s more paranormal and very funny and interesting premise.
I think the narrator is a good fit for this story but she can border on grating and sometimes she gets screechy. I have listened at bedtime or to help me fall asleep and even on lower volume have had parts where she “yells” or gets excited and I jump. Otherwise, she’s fun. She’s definitely an energetic reader!
Overall, this book might well be one I actually listen to several times over. I plan to continue the series and am happy to have found a new series.
I don’t wish to spoil anything so I will just tell you that pretty much immediately into the story- which is very well written- I was intrigued. Why does the main character see what she sees? Why is it happening? What’s going on? Where is the plot going?? What’s up with other characters? It kept me enthralled. So fun!

For more than two years, Miep Gies and her husband helped hide the Franks from the Nazis. Like thousands of unsung heroes of the Holocaust, they risked their lives each day to bring food, news, and emotional support to the victims. From her own remarkable childhood as a World War I refugee to the moment she places a small, red-orange, checkered diary -- Anne's legacy -- in Otto Frank's hands, Miep Gies remembers her days with simple honesty and shattering clarity.

Revisado: 06-16-23
The narrator is perfect for this book. And the book is so very well written, I could not stop listening until I finished. Miep Gies is a very important figure in and of herself as well as to Anne Frank’s legacy and history, and everyone should check this book out. Well worth a credit.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Unexpectedly poor narration
Revisado: 08-10-22
The book is good and I highly recommend it to anyone. It’s among the best memoirs I have read- and it really doesn’t feel right when a memoir is not read by the author. However, while I love Jennette McCurdy’s voice, she often mumbles and speaks rapidly as if she’s rushing through this book. There were times I could not understand her, and I don’t want to slow a book down. If she had just slowed it down a bit and spoken more clearly, the narration could have been excellent.
I honestly want to keep this book but I am finding myself reading along with the ebook so I don’t miss what she’s saying. I’m only a few chapters in so if I continue to find I can’t make out her mumbling I might be unable to finish and will have to stick with only the ebook or a hard copy. Hopefully it gets better- and again, I really do love Jennette.

Almost did not finish
Revisado: 04-12-22
This book was so plodding, so repetitive and ridiculous. I barely finished it, I kept falling asleep. Sorry I purchased this one. The narrator was ok, the story was awful. Alice is dumb and the plot is just absurd. I like thrillers but hated this one.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Didn’t like this one
Revisado: 03-04-22
Narrators were good but the plot was so very unoriginal and predictable, what a boring listen. Lucy Foley is just not going to be one of my favorite authors, I finally figured out after 3 tries. I missed half the book from my mind wandering aimlessly.

Historia
Chloe Cates is missing. The 13-year-old star of the hit YouTube series CC and Me has disappeared, and nobody knows where she’s gone - least of all ruthless momager Jennifer Scarborough, who has spent much of her daughter’s young life crafting a child celebrity persona that is finally beginning to pay off. And in Chloe’s absence, the faux-fairy-tale world that supported that persona begins to fracture, revealing secrets capable of reducing the highly dysfunctional Scarborough family to rubble.

3.5 stars overall
Revisado: 02-18-22
No spoilers! But there might be some non-spoilery comments you may prefer not to even get in your head, I tried to be as vague as possible. I don’t reveal anything about the plot here.
This is a pretty good book. Overall the narration is excellent, although the mom and Chloe both can be a bit dramatic.
I found the story to remain engaging for the book length, the plot turns and twists were not all that surprising, even the ending. Where the author really nails it in my opinion is the character of Chloe’s mom, she has nightmare momager done so well that it made me shrink back in disdain quite a few times.
Without spoiling it, I find the weaknesses in the characterizations and some plot issues to be with Chloe’s dad and the police detective who is trying to solve this case. I’m still not sure how one could be so weak and the other could have that history. (Neither relates to the other).
I enjoy mysteries and found this one to be worthy of a binge listen and a relisten to see if anything makes any more sense the second time around. I do have to wonder…maybe I missed something…how did the momager turn out to be so awful? I mean, we know this from the first page of the book, even the description, but I don’t know how she came to be so utterly insufferable and horrific. I do feel like a plot hole is left unexplained at the end, my last question is “Is this character going to do the right thing or did we find that out just to know she continued on with life as usual?”

Good intro to a new author for me
Revisado: 06-03-21
I was given an audiobook code in exchange for an honest review. I like the narrator, she does well.
This book goes back and forth between Frances’ time as a student at Thackery, where a disaster happened and two lived were lost, and Frances’ time present day as she’s returned to Thackery to live there and work as a guidance counselor. So we see what happened when Frances was a student, and we see what is going on on the campus currently. There is a group of girls reporting hauntings at the school believed to be from the event that happened to Frances and her friends 20 years ago.
Frances is trying to figure out what’s going on. The story kept me interested and is a good length for the plot. I could figure some of it out but the ending has surpises as well. This was an enjoyable book, 3.5 stars. I’d listen to it again to see if I missed anything and will definitely read more from this author.
Oh yes- this book had an almost gothic feel, and I’m a sucker for books about boarding schools.

Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird has just been Marked as a fledgling vampire and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change - and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no ordinary fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampire Goddess Nyx.

Love the original narrator!
Revisado: 05-27-21
I really like the House of Night series. Book 1, Marked, is a strong start to the series. After book 3, they started changing narrators for the next 2 books until they landed with Caitlin Davies, who I do like, but I just wanted to show some love to the original narrator- Edwina Wren. It looks like Caitlin has rerecorded a few of Edwina’s versions. This is probably for cohesiveness but the other 2 narrators REALLY need to be rerecorded. However, I love Edwina Wren and to me, she personifies Zoey perfectly.
I really love this book and the Edwina Wren version is so much more enjoyable. Caitlin Davies is great so the book is still worth buying. So what I like about this series are the characters. Zoey and Grandma Redbird are my favorites in Marked. I also love how this book is about a vampire boarding school, but it includes a lot of Native American legend and elements of Wicca.
The only thing really wrong with this book is the pop culture references sprinkled throughout that are going to date the book, if the Casts had not done that, this series would be much more timeless.

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

Not too great
Revisado: 04-27-21
I think this narrator is terrible. Very thin and nasally. The story is kind of predictable, formulaic, and weak. I am suffering through it one more time (it’s included in my membership, I would not waste a credit on it!) to see if I can like it any better or if I missed something? I don’t care for it, and I normally love mysteries/thrillers.
