Historia
Mere Christianity is C.S. Lewis' forceful and accessible doctrine of Christian belief. Essential Christian doctrine in everyday language
Revisado: 08-25-22
C S Lewis has done an incredible job of explaining basic doctrine in an easy to understand and follow way for practical living faith. I read this a long time ago but hearing it read was well worth the time. The performance reflects the fact that the chapters were originally written to be performed on radio broadcasts. Very effective. If you are new to faith or have difficulty making sense of why we follow Jesus this would be very helpful. Highly recommend

It started by stealth. At first, no one could see what was happening. By the time the alarm was raised it was too late. Ireland had been seized: a financial assault consolidated by a military one. But as the island is overrun, it’s soon clear that the invaders did not anticipate the fierce resolve of of their Celtic opponents. Nor the determination of the country’s powerful allies to throw out the occupiers....

great story and characters this time familiarity does not breed contempt but appreciation for continuity. The prose is almost poetry now. perhaps because i recently retired i can empathize with some of the issues raised

Historia
John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough (1644-1722), was one of the greatest military commanders and statesmen in the history of England. Victorious in the Battles of Blenheim (1704) and Ramillies (1706) and countless other campaigns, Marlborough, whose political intrigues were almost as legendary as his military skill, never fought a battle he didn't win. Marlborough also bequeathed the world another great British military strategist and diplomat, his descendant, Winston S. Churchill.

Historia
Known for his network of conservative websites that draws millions of readers everyday, Andrew Breitbart has one main goal: to make sure the "liberally biased" major news outlets in this country cover all aspects of a story fairly. Breitbart is convinced that too many national stories are slanted by the news media in an unfair way. In Righteous Indignation, Breitbart talks about the key issues that Americans face, how he has aligned himself with the Tea Party, and how one needs to deal with the liberal news world head on.

Great up on Heinlein and duck. This is in the same league as their bests
Inventive story structure adds to the flow and enables belivable surprise twists
Characters are fully developed no disposable villains or sidekicks. You feel the authors putting g his own pain of real loss into his writing. Not ur typical mil-sf much more than that a journey of self discovery

What did you like best about Nicholas and Alexandra? What did you like least?
not history, but not bio , couldn't make their mind and unsatisfying for either especially considering how long it took to tell. does the author think restating his opinions again and again makes them facts?

Historia
The rise to global predominance of Western civilization is the single most important historical phenomenon of the past five hundred years. All over the world, an astonishing proportion of people now work for Western-style companies, study at Western-style universities, vote for Western-style governments, take Western medicines, wear Western clothes, and even work Western hours. Yet six hundred years ago the petty kingdoms of Western Europe seemed unlikely to achieve much more than perpetual internecine warfare. It was Ming China or Ottoman Turkey that had the look of world civilizations.

unapologetic review of the dominance of west
Revisado: 12-14-11
Would you listen to Civilization again? Why?
lots of intriguing detail of rarely referenced non western sources which bear further investigation
What other book might you compare Civilization to and why?
Gold God and Guns - WRM
Which character – as performed by Niall Ferguson – was your favorite?
Simon Bolivar - hard to believe the stereotype I was taught in school was such anti democratic figure in reality - lots of good quotes
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was touched by the in depth look at slavery in North and South America with the different forms this evil took in different cultures
Any additional comments?
looking forward to the second half
