As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Not worth it.
Revisado: 05-15-23
Main character is the weakness excuse for a person and blames everything on everyone around him for something that happened 20 years ago. He went through a traumatic event at 12 and has allowed it to set the stage of his entire existence but hides from the fact he has a past but makes it his life at the same time. He Uses his past as a pathetic excuse to be just a weak individual when he’s backed into a corner he painted himself into. Blames everyone else but himself and doesn’t put in work to fix himself or relationships hes wrecked due to his inability to have a backbone.
Cassie is great character and the ONLY reason i kept reading bc i want to read the next book that’s just about her and not this other drab character of a man. The other characters are well written and created too. But the main character is what the plot and perspective of the book is written- so it makes it very hard to get into. Its just him in his head feeling sorry for himself on and off for 20 hours , feeling bad about why his life is so bleak and blaming the 20 year old “traumatic” event for why he is such a lifeless and bore of a person that truly has no desire to take action to do good or make his life better. It’s also 20 hours and I have finished good 20 hour books in 2 days easy. This book has taken me over a week. It’s one plot that just keeps going and going and going. I keep having to rewind because i zone out due to the lack of entertainment of evolving plot twists that don’t exist. Finished it just to not waste a credit.

Best of the Abby series!
Revisado: 03-28-23
If you are a Mike Omar fan and love his Abby series so far, the final book of the series is a home run and great ending for the characters! I was entertained even having an idea of who the bad guy was from early on because the plot is so thrilling! Realistic twists and turns in the pursuit of taking down the bad guy and even I causing two other of my favorites from his other series - Zoe and Tatum. Great all around!

Revisado: 08-26-22
*just be warned there is human and animal torture / mutilation scenes that are gory and graphic but you can feel it coming and fast forward and skip*
This book is the best of the series for character development (of all the characters in the books to come before), plot twists, character banter, and it keeps its pace from start to finish. While it is wonderful addition to the series be warned that it is Very gory murder scenes, with mutilations and dark satanic rituals taking center stage as the killers method of murderous acts. Found myself making the sign of the cross as I listened in sheer disbelief of the fact Satan could be worshipped by cults that see him as their god. I learned that was the way for some and was able to praise Jesus a little louder and pray a little harder thanking Him for His light that drives out all satan’s darkness! Just be warned if any of the above is a trigger for you, I would skip.

Don’t waste a credit
Revisado: 08-04-22
Coming from a HUGE lisa Jackson fan, and someone who has read all of her books, skip this one. Don’t bother using a credit. It’s like a story for pre teens but too gory for younger people. This book was just one I had to make myself get through bc i am stubborn and was not going to waste a credit. I finished it fast just to get it done and figure out what 14 hours of one freaking plot with no twists could even pan out to be in the end. I was trying to get through it kind of hoping it would take a turn at hour 3, 4, 9, etc and hoping the characters would magically blossom into the typical characters she creates and makes you LOVE. But not this one. wow, what a huge disappointment. It’s not her best work by far, the only thing i recognized is a couple phrases Lisa always writes into her novels. Other than that, the entire book doesn’t even feel like her. The character development is dreadful and the main character is not a heroine, at all. There is no heroine or hero, one plot that just keeps going and going and going and going while the characters get more desperate and have the worst conversations (like imagine life time movie and a soap opera combined but using the WORST actors and actresses- that bad), and there are no twists that are worthy to write about. I can’t believe Lisa Jackson wrote this!

Historia
Who you want people to be makes you blind to who they really are. It’s been a year since Billie Flanagan — a Berkeley mom with an enviable life — went on a solo hike in Desolation Wilderness and vanished from the trail. Her body was never found, just a shattered cellphone and a solitary hiking boot. Her husband and teenage daughter have been coping with Billie’s death the best they can: Jonathan drinks as he works on a loving memoir about his marriage; Olive grows remote, from both her father and her friends at the all-girls school she attends.

1 star, not worth a credit
Revisado: 02-16-22
Book had lots of twists and turns buts is so incredibly depressing. 1 star. Recommend you Read “pretty things“ instead of this book by this same author, it’s a lot better!
A woman , Billie (the worst), vanishes on a solo hiking trip, leaving behind a bedraggled lost hiking Boot, and so many questions that lead to a year of her family waiting, hoping, searching, for her until she’s assumed dead. The loss leaves behind a grief stricken, heart broken teenage daughter and husband trying to our end back the shattered world their mom/wife left them to deal with in her wake. The story unfolds as the daughter, Olive, starts to have “visions” that her mom is alive and begins a heart breaking search for truth. meanwhile the husband/dad, Jonathan, begins to write a memoir in his lost wife’s name and begins to uncover her secrets, betrayals, and information that leaves him wondering if he ever knew his wife at all before she died.

********SPOILERS below*******
The character of Billie (individual, runaway, activist, wife, mother, any other role she plays In The book) = the absolute worst. She was toxic and self righteous, selfish, narcissist, that seemed to purposefully ruin the lives of friends and family in the name of being a martyr but in reality choosing the end game that best suited her new narrative. A narrative, that she wanted to write, without regard, consideration, of the hurt her actions will cause. In fact, she consistently gave herself a pass because she said everyone was better off for whatever she decided to do that was the best call at that time according to Billie and Billie alone, ultimate cop out for being a terrible human being. The character was written as one that refuses to face her own bad choices, own her bad actions, and can’t handle being okay with being hated and labeled the bad guy. She actually insteads chooses to run from everything and allow her family to think she’s dead.
The selfishness of this character who is a MOM, really bothered me and made the tone of the book so disheartening. It’s not a mystery or a thriller just a twisted super depressing story of a woman who gives up on her family and her current life and walks away allowing her family to think their mom/wife is dead. So sad!

Makes you wonder just who you can trust. A story that leaves you guessing if a limit exist for someone so evil they are willing to destroy lives through murder, lies, and betrayals just to reveal their truth in seeking revenge. A lot of moving parts, author takes you back in time, and then comes back to the present, and even has scattered pieces of time in between the past and present. All linking together and the twists and turning weaving a incredibly thrilling story with so many pieces to connect! A couple characters were pretty annoying but the overall story was stellar.
