Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Even stronger than Fourth Wing

This book had me on the edge of my seat. The audiobook had me looking forward to my commute so I could continue with the story.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

I thought I wasn’t a fantasy fan
Revisado: 02-23-25
It drew me in from the first page. Even though it was one of the longest stories I’ve read in a long time, I flew through it because I just couldn’t stop reading. (I also have the paperback, so I was switching back and forth with the audiobook.)
I can’t wait to start the next in the series!

High school sweethearts Mia Clementine and Alfie Thanasis had a plan to escape their town for college in the east. Mia would leave her hard-core evangelical home for Sarah Lawrence College, and Alfie would have a new place to pursue his three loves: baseball, poetry, and Mia. But when Alfie got offered a scholarship to the University of San Francisco the same week the entire town found out about Mia’s mom’s affair with their church’s pastor, Mia’s world imploded and she pushed everyone away…including Alfie.

Not a romance
Revisado: 02-02-25
I got the audiobook because I wasn’t making much progress reading the print version. When I bought it, it was shelved with the YA romance. I just really feel like everybody needs a heads up that this really doesn’t fit the designation of a true romance. I’m actually kind of disappointed that I gave so much time to the story
