Gritty. Believable. Captivating
Revisado: 01-09-25
Unlike most books in this genre, I never once found it formulaic, predictable, or sedentary. Surprisingly this book kept me going with clearly developed characters, subplots, and realistic scenarios. I'll definitely be following this author. Narration was exceptional, balanced, and pleasantly entertaining.

Easy read. We'll developed. Entertaining.
Revisado: 12-26-24
The writing was solid, flowed well, and following the story was pleasingly effortless. I found the rewriting of Robin Hood's sexuality a hijacking of someone elses work, which was neither warranted or useful. As a result, it left a bitter essence to some otherwise good storytelling.

There were lots of elements that should have made this a good story but their execution just wasn't on point and the writing seemed too loose for a final draft of an exacting action thriller. Will not be moving onto book two but this was fairly enjoyable.

Good story line but very drawn out
Revisado: 11-02-22
I really enjoyed the author's last book I read, but struggled to finish this one as it lost steam part way through and even after picking it up again felt very stretched out. Perhaps the strikingly few lovable characters did that fo me or maybe the overload on childish negativity in their police interviews. Either way it just left me exhausted. Ending was worth the read, however, and that is so in line with the story itself, it feels more natural at last.

Tastefully tantalizing, perplexing, and curious
Revisado: 10-08-22
Loved this book the whole way through. The complex dynamic of "the truth as I see it" adds a juicy twist in this cozy mystery. Even street smart people can miss the obvious at times as does our heroine in the story making her that much more easy to connect with. The ending was a first rate twisting drive and roller coaster of emotion that had more than a few surprises along the way.

This is a re-imagining of the story of Elijah from the Bible...Elijah is a young prophet studying the Torah, when the soldiers of Queen Jezebel burn his school and massacre his teachers. He escapes, barely, but finds himself on the run and hunted....as Queen Jezebel attempts to stamp out the worship of the Hebrew God in Israel and replace it with the worship of Ba’al. As the queen’s soldiers close in on him, Elijah discovers a little known promise in the Scroll of Deuteronomy and prays for something impossible....

Fictional history, liberal, loose
Revisado: 09-28-22
I love fictional history, but you have to be so careful with inserting fictional stories into real people's lives. That is even more true with Biblical text. Narration was first rate although the accents were far from middle eastern. I had hoped for a more time and culturally correct story rather than some modern day overlay of an average person's day in the life. It felt sloppy and careless in its treatment of such important history.

Really enjoyed the story overall, but some of the talking and explanation of feelings seemed a bit laborious at times. Plot was good but felt artificially stretched and lacking in those polishing touches.
