Another fun ride with the box gang. I was a little let down by the major arcs conclusion. But over all a great run.

The buildup to Boxys "return" was epic. But the way it ended was kinda meh in comparison. Hope the next one ramps up like this again. But without all the "unphased" from boxy.

Loved the way the book was done.

one of my greatest pet peeves with these types of books is when they go from adventure and struggle in the first book. then the second is city building right after an epic arc. it's always infuriates me when authors/publishers use the city building meandering bits to pad the book count and make you wish you skipped everywhere book.

This doesn't do that. And I am greatly appreciative and will be getting the rest of the series as I enjoyed the MC and the supporting characters.

The way the future cast was inroduced was nice aswell. And contained in one book! Making it the most competent/complete beginning of a series like this in a long while.

No. This was disappointing.

The story and dialog in this book was very poor. Everything just "happens" and MC just wins "just cause". That being said. I love a good OP MC, the ability of the MC is really interesting but the way every battle pans out is so bland.
Same recipe for every fight, MC gets hit by enemy ability and his completely unharmed and unphased then proceeds to one shot the enemy with their own ability.

All the side/female characters were annoying little girls. And since the only side characters of note are females it becomes really annoying, really fast.

The story moves at a fast pace, which is fine. but that is done by people being idiots and super powered enemies being one spotted by the MC who is supposed to be at the bottom rung of the ladder.

Spoiler Gripes:
Once they broke out the "wind katana" and the wind powered paper snowboard for the girl who made origami paper planes that acted as magic carpets I was done with this entire series.
Princess "I hope a MC comes to save me" is Disney level of dumb. Just post a rescue mission with no reward and hopes someone "trustworthy" takes me home so I can just scream liar at the shape-shifting women pretended to be my dad. When that fails she just waits to die.
The supposed badassed teacher from first book is now even lazier and doesn't want to lead. So she just prays the MC saves her aswell...

lots more of this in the book that drove me up a wall. if audible hadn't changed the return policy I would have sent both of the books back and used my credits elsewhere.

Did a great job of bringing all the characters back jnto focus and expanding the potential for the series. Boxy is the reason I have over 250+ audible books!

Loved the story and the MC.
Writer didnt sacrifice the MCs talents and qualities to tell the same "underdog wins thanks to plot" story. He is OP due to his personality and what he gained in the past. Making him likely to remain OP in the rest of the story.
Story was fun, has an interesting world with varied power systems.

Outside of the batman-esque ending for the major battle I really enjoyed this story and the world built upon it. I like how dedicated the MC is and how changes are occurring to make the story interesting. Which is why the "prep time" style victory was a let down. Would have preferred a more skill based way to over overcome those trials. Overall I enjoyed the story and grabbing book 2. Hope that was the end of the batman style answers to stronger opposition.

Loved it, rare to find a book that is this well done these days.
MC was worth the title, and was Not a Plot powered tale of incompetence. Very refreshing character and story. Can't wait for the next book. No BS Cliff hanger, but did hook me in with the excerpt from book 2.

David takes a no excuses approach to getting your shit together and plotting a course YOU want to be on. Through examples of his trials and f'ups he shows a way for ward through the muck of lifes ups and downs. Giving you some safe advice on how to stand for what you want in life.
