Wonderful series!
Revisado: 04-18-17
Poor India is suddenly out on her own, trying to find work in a field that does not accept women. Add in the Victorian class system and a unique skill that she doesn't realize she has, and you've got a well told story.
I love the mix of fantasy and Victorian times. This book sucked me right in and wouldn't let me go. Thankfully, I started listening to it on a Saturday morning. I finished it that evening. It's not often I want to binge listen to a book. I started the second book in the series the next day. The narrator, Emma Powell, was the perfect choice. I am looking forward to the third book in the series by C.J. Archer!

Historia
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Revisado: 04-18-17
It's refreshing to see more apocalyptic books with female main characters. This one didn't let me down. I was also pleased that the author kept the plot realistic. I hope this is the beginning of a series. I really want to know what happens next to Lauren and her family.
As usual, Keven Pierce gave an excellent performance. He is the reason I wanted to listen to this book.

Nice little romantic mystery
Revisado: 08-04-16
I listened to this book in one sitting. At just over five hours, it was the perfect length to listen to on a Sunday, while getting things done around the house. The story flows well, without getting boring. There's just enough mystery to make the book more than a romance. And, with the main character being a photographer specializing in special needs children, it gives you a new perspective on how families must adapt to make things work.
This book is categorized as a religious romance, but does not come across that way. You don't really notice it.
Melissa Moran was an excellent narrator. She's easy to listen to and you can tell she's read the book before recording it.

Enjoyable but Predictable
Revisado: 08-02-16
Scottish Werebear was an easy listen. I found it refreshing having a male narrator for what I would call a romance. But, it really works well. Patrick Blackthorne was easy to listen to.
Maybe I've read too many shifter romance books, but I found this one a bit too predictable. There seem to be a rash of werebear books available now. I was hoping for something more original.
NOTE: In addition to book 1, I've also listened to books 2 and 3. Of the three books, the first is my favorite. It's an excellent stand alone book.

It's always fun to learn about a new world. This was no exception. It was fun and interesting experiencing Kendra's life as she learns what it is to be an ondine and use magic. I look forward to the other books in the series.

Mixed emotions
Revisado: 08-02-16
The story sucked me right in. I liked learning about Eve's struggle with using magic. But there were some parts of the book that felt slow and monotonous, due to the slow narration. I can see how the narrator's voice was used to give the story a darker feel, but it was too slow, monotone, and unfeeling. I think I would have enjoyed reading the book, instead of listening to it.

I really enjoyed book 8 in this series. Now I need to start at the beginning, so I can learn how Shelby earned her ability to hear what people are thinking. I would love to have this ability! Of course, I'd want to be able to turn it off.

Revisado: 08-02-16
Anna, an army widow, and NIck, recently taking custody of his nieces, help each other with parenthood, faith, trust, and love. This is one of those feel good, romance stories that makes you smile at the end.
Rebecca Rush was a wonderful narrator. Her voice is pleasing, and I loved the way she did the children's voices.

A different survivalist story
Revisado: 08-02-16
Talk about different... A survivalist situation caused by the possibility that dogs may be causing cancer. Wow! I didn't see that plot coming. I was a little skeptical at first, but when you think about it, it's not that unrealistic. This really could happen. Any dog lover will easily get sucked into the story. The politics got a little heavier than I like, but the story line moves quickly enough that I could ignore the politics.
Kudos, as usual, to Kevin Pierce, for doing an excellent job on the narration. I would gladly listen to him read almost any book. .
