Not the best in this series
Revisado: 04-01-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Just about the whole story line...
What could Vicki Lewis Thompson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Skip the chocolate scene... it came out corny and not enjoyable to listen to.
What aspect of Abby Craden’s performance would you have changed?
I like Abby Craden... have gotten used to her reading this series but somehow with this storyline it made her performance sound very dull and boring and hard to get thru.
Any additional comments?
I found this one very hard to complete. It took me about three times longer to get thru because I would get bored and not pick it up again. There are books that I have to listen to from beginning to end cringing when I have to stop and take a break. With this one I was cringing and needing to take breaks. That's a clear sign that this book was not for me.

Love this series... but...
Revisado: 03-21-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend it to my friends as most have read this series already...
Who was your favorite character and why?
Skif has always my favorite... I like a rascal :-)
What three words best describe Karen White’s performance?
Great voice... but her pronunciation of the characters names irked me EVERYTIME she mispronounced them... Talia is pronounces Tal-ya... not Ta-Lee-Ah....
Alberich is pronounced Al-ber-ick ... not Al-ber-ritch (the ch make a k sound... please)
sorry...petty I know... but it grated like nails on a chalk board...
Could you see Winds of Fate being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I would like it... my cast would include...
Danielle Panabaker as Elspeth, Alex Meraz as Darkwind
Gemma Arterton as Talia, Alexander Skarsgard as Dirk, Charlize Theron as Selenay, Mads Mikkelsen as Alberich, Anton Yelchin as Skif, and Katee Sackhoff as Kerowyn
Any additional comments?
Please... for the next books... have the narrator go back and listen to the pronunciations of the names in the other books that have already made it to audible... would make for a more cohesive listening experience for the listeners...

Historia
Emma Bannon, forensic sorceress in the service of the Empire, has a mission: to protect Archibald Clare, a failed, unregistered mentath. His skills of deduction are legendary, and her own sorcery is not inconsiderable. It doesn't help much that they barely tolerate each other, or that Bannon's Shield, Mikal, might just be a traitor himself. Or that the conspiracy killing registered mentaths and sorcerers alike will just as likely kill them as seduce them into treachery toward their Queen.

Steampunk that really isn't
Revisado: 09-13-12
Would you try another book from Lilith Saintcrow and/or Moira Quirk?
I would try one in a different set than these but if it turned out a bad a this one then no more.
What could Lilith Saintcrow have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I was expecting an enjoyable pairing between the two main characters trying to solve a mystery (in the Sherlock variety). Ended up with two characters with no chemistry to be believable partners nor a mystery worth solving.
What aspect of Moira Quirk’s performance would you have changed?
The narrator was good... I could not fault the drivel she had to work with
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Iron Wyrm Affair?
80% of the entire plot...
Any additional comments?
I wanted to like this book. I usually get a kick out of the Steampunk genre but this really wasn't Steampunk.
The author kept going on and on about Primes, Shields, and Mentaths over and over. Got it already... two or three references then using the characters names... fine... but havethose three words pop up in every other paragraph really grated on my nerves and had me putting the book down several times.
Was a very hard book to push myself thru to finish and at this point I don't even know why I bothered.
When book reviews are lower than I would think I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt but in this case I should have heeded others advise.
Thoroughly disappointed.
