Thought it would be more in depth, but it wasn’t. I suppose I’ve heard it all before.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Great Resource, Hard topic, Real traumatic stories
Revisado: 06-27-23
This outlook is an invaluable resource for anybody dealing with trauma-whether as the recipient of it, or of practitioners, spouses, or children involved in the recipient’s life.
I do also wish the info on how to choose a therapist was openly available. As somebody who recently has sought help for the first time has experienced, changing therapists brings a feeling of failure and shame on its own. Knowing it may just be a bad fit or worse, a bad therapist, is an easier path towards healing than compounding recovery with self-gaslighting. There is a good path forward.
This book also finds me being appreciative of more evidence based treatment not found in talk based therapy. It also leaves me hoping politics will not stunt the growth of advancing fields in brain scanning, Neurofeedback, etc.
