Great Account of a Great life
Revisado: 09-19-22
Good mix of technical and personal. Johnson seemed to know what readers would want to know. Mentions five times that he wanted to grow up to be Tom Swift. Narrator's voice is a bit scratchy but acceptable.

Historia
Nothing Like It in the World is the story of the men who built the transcontinental railroad. In Ambrose's hands, this enterprise comes to life. The U.S. government pitted two companies - the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific railroads - against each other in a race for funding, encouraging speed over caution. As its peak the work force approached the size of Civil War armies, with as many as 15,000 workers on each line. The surveyors, the men who picked the route, lived off buffalo, deer, and antelope.

Good but surprisingly redundant
Revisado: 07-24-22
Great information and coverage but surprisingly redundant. The rail laying process was described repeatedly without amplification. The one day record of six miles of track was presented three times without distinction. Listening to track routing geography is hard to follow without a specialized map. But the subject is delightful and the author knows his subject.

Turn Gagarin had the right stuff too
Revisado: 05-03-22
Essentialy, "The Right Stuff" with the Russian side included. Very revealing look into how Russia beat American into space and why America beat them to the moon and a reverent look at the first human in space. Well narrated and full of fascinating details.

Historia
Many consider the Battle of Midway to have turned the tide of the Pacific War. It is without question one of the most famous battles in history. Now, for the first time since Gordon W. Prange's best-selling Miracle at Midway, Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully offer a new interpretation of this great naval engagement. Shattered Sword makes extensive use of Japanese primary sources. It also corrects the many errors of Mitsuo Fuchida's Midway: The Battle That Doomed Japan It thus forces a major, potentially controversial reevaluation of the great battle.

Historia
Working in a secretive organization known as Section T, a team of physicists, engineers, and everyday Joes and Janes took on a devilish challenge. To help the Allies knock airplanes out of the air, they created one of the world’s first “smart weapons”. Against overwhelming odds and in a race against time, mustering every scrap of resource, ingenuity, and insight, the scientists of Section T would eventually save countless lives, rescue the city of London from the onslaught of a Nazi superweapon, and help bring about the Axis defeat.

Not what I expected to learn
Revisado: 03-01-22
For a book about the development of the then revolutionary, war winning proximity fuse, it has very little to say about the fuze itself. I'm an electrical engineer and never felt enlightened. The writing style makes continuous use of lists with no action flowing among tlhe items. The book mentions thousands of names as though it had access to a list of personnel but knew little else about them. You can get more useful info from the Wikipedia article.
