Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

I’m in the minority - did not like
Revisado: 06-13-19
There were too many holes in the story. Not realistic if you’re ever had psychotherapy or even known anyone who had psychotherapy.
Too many times the author used a phrase something like, “He made a decision“ or “I could tell she was making a decision“. Got old quick.
The male narrator overacted. His cadence and dramatic effect reminded me of Captain Kirk on Star Trek.
The female narrator was better but couldn’t make up for the bad plot and annoying male narration.

Historia
You’ve heard of an Essex Girl or even a Chelsea Girl, but what about a Hounslow Girl? Definition of a Hounslow Girl: a young Muslim woman who wears hooped earrings with her headscarf and grapples with traditional values while hustling her way through urban London. The Diary of a Hounslow Girl is a bold and provocative one-person play, written and performed by Ambreen Razia. From the joys of traditional Pakistani weddings to fights on the night bus, this is a comic story of dreams, aspirations and coming of age, told through the eyes of a 16-year-old British Muslim girl.

Annoying
Revisado: 01-21-19
Nine minutes and 22 seconds in to this book and I had to turn it off. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard and the fake breathless panting was annoying.

Mireille Duval Jameson is living a fairy tale. The strong-willed youngest daughter of one of Haiti’s richest sons, she has an adoring husband, a precocious infant son, by all appearances a perfect life. The fairy tale ends one day when Mireille is kidnapped in broad daylight by a gang of heavily armed men, in front of her father’s Port au Prince estate. Held captive by a man who calls himself The Commander, Mireille waits for her father to pay her ransom.

Enough already
Revisado: 01-06-18
Well written and well performed but it would have had the same (if not more of) and impact on me if the book had been much shorter. It is not lost on me that she wanted her abuse to end yet it endured. I felt the same about the story. I wanted it to end but it endured. Maybe that was her point.

Historia
Racism can linger in the strangest of places. Sometimes, even within yourself. For Clara Lacroix, the past was the place she chose to dwell. That's where her memories of Boone, and the life they shared, resided. But for Joe Black Hawk, the past was a painful mix of a fading heritage he didn't want to lose, and a string of mistakes he'd just as soon forget.

Unexpectedly Not Formulaic
Revisado: 06-17-17
I enjoyed the story. It was a bit trite at times but did not have the sappy ending I expected - which is very good!
I absolutely hated the voice of the psychiatrist. If there's any way to re-record this with a different voice, please do! Every time her voice was used, I grimaced.

Usually love author read books
Revisado: 03-24-17
Unfortunately, this is a book I think I would have better enjoyed by reading. The author's voice did not match the character I imagined. Still, a very good story!
