Historia
How should the United States act in the world? Americans cannot decide. Sometimes we burn with righteous anger, launching foreign wars and deposing governments. Then we retreat - until the cycle begins again. No matter how often we debate this question, none of what we say is original. Every argument is a pale shadow of the first and greatest debate, which erupted more than a century ago. Its themes resurface every time Americans argue whether to intervene in a foreign country.

Starts off like Mark Twain, ends like Roosevelt
Revisado: 09-15-20
The book starts off amazingly, but ends with the same old browbeating.
In the beginning it's thoughtful and detailed with the nuances of turn of the 20th century activity.
But at the end we got a very broad brush overview of the sins of our fathers that I've heard a million times.
If you want to write a book about each of those conflicts with the same depth as you did this book, please do, until then.. Cut that chapter.

Historia
In 1307, as they struggled to secure their last strongholds in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Templars fell afoul of the vindictive and impulsive king of France. On Friday, October 13, hundreds of brothers were arrested en masse, imprisoned, tortured, and disbanded amid accusations of lurid sexual misconduct and heresy. They were tried by the Vatican in secret proceedings. But were they heretics or victims of a ruthlessly repressive state?

How do we rate non-fiction?
Revisado: 07-15-20
This book was well researched, probably.
It wasn't entertaining. It's one of those books that will make you better at Trivial Pursuit, but it won't shatter your world view.
I'm glad I listened to it, but I'm not clambering to listen to it again.

Historia
Ross' ascent in WWE mirrors the rise of professional wrestling itself from a DIY sideshow to a billion-dollar business. Under the Black Hat traces all the highs and lows of that wild ride, in which Jim served not only as on-air commentator, but talent manager, payroll master, and even occasional in-ring foil to threats like Paul "Triple H" Levesque and Undertaker.

A good listen
Revisado: 05-23-20
Anything read by JR is worth listening to, even the phone book.
But this isn't an earth shattering book by any means.
The story of Jan was a nice thread throughout with a heart wrenching ending.
JR is the greatest, this book doesn't attract or detract from that fact.
Listen to this book if you just like hearing about hat goes on behind the curtain.

Historia
In The Red and the Blue, cable news star and acclaimed journalist Steve Kornacki follows the twin paths of Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich, two larger-than-life politicians who exploited the weakened structure of their respective parties to attain the highest offices. For Clinton, that meant contorting himself around the various factions of the Democratic party to win the presidency. Gingrich employed a scorched-earth strategy to upend the permanent Republican minority in the House, making him speaker.

Steve does a good job at presenting a balanced account of the 90's federal political scene.

The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

That's it?
Revisado: 01-15-20
I feel let down if this is the last part of the series. We spent three full books investing in the characters to see them done dirty like this.
Did Joshua get bored and want it over with?
I recommend that everyone listen to the whole series, but this latest book was a really disappointing ending submission.

Historia
Can a young war correspondent find herself and follow her heart? In this work of historical fiction, 20-something Annabella “Annie” March arrives in France in 1944 intending to write about the war. Soon, however, Annie begins to distance herself from her sometimes-mentor, sometimes-rival - the great Martha Gellhorn - and Gellhorn’s larger-than-life husband, the novelist Ernest Hemingway. She turns to photography in the hopes of making her own name and, to her delight, discovers that images come more easily than words.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Could have been an hour shorter
Revisado: 01-15-20
The entire chapter about air superiority at the end of the book could have been trimmed and it would have been an improvement. That section dragged a lot and didn't really follow the theme of the book. I know context Is important to the author, but for this book, that long exploration of context could have been left out and released as a Hardcore History Addendum.
Congrats on the book and I will most assuredly listen to it ageen, and a ageen, and ageen.

Revisado: 10-22-18
This book concentrates on the characters and the events that surround them. If you are looking to feel as if you are part of the world the characters live in, stay away. But if you are looking for a very strong, well written, action packed, emotional saga... Come on down.
