Spoiled by the abrupt beginning
Revisado: 03-14-23
The directives begin immediately so unless you are completely settled into bed, comfortable and with lights off, you miss the first 30 seconds or more. Then you sort of have to catch up. Sample a few others, which is what I should have done. There are several in this series that have a more gradual beginning. I’ll be returning this one and making a different selection.

Historia
The year is 1327. Franciscans in a wealthy Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, and Brother William of Baskerville arrives to investigate. But his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths that take place in seven days and nights of apocalyptic terror. Brother William turns detective, and a uniquely deft one at that. His tools are the logic of Aristotle, the theology of Aquinas, the empirical insights of Roger Bacon-- all sharpened to a glistening edge by his wry humor and ferocious curiosity.

Not for everyone
Revisado: 03-12-22
After a few chapters I knew I would never finish it. Quite gruesome and quite boring. Wish I could return it.

Somewhat uninspired
Revisado: 07-02-21
It captured my interest at the outset, but after the accident, it was lackluster. The narrator gave a very uninspired and predictable reading, quite mundane, without much depth. The author seemed obsessed with diarrhea, frequently informing us of her suffering in that regard. A more nuanced reading may have helped, but overall, it was a disappointing choice.

Historia
Visiting her family's South Carolina estate, socialite Gray Godfrey wakes from a night out to an empty bed. Her husband, Paul, is gone, and a thrashing hangover has wiped her memory clean. At first, she's relieved for the break from her tumultuous marriage; perhaps Paul just needed some space. But when his car is found abandoned on the highway, Gray must face the truth: Paul is gone. And Gray may not want him found. Her life is unraveling. When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help.

Uneven narration
Revisado: 09-28-20
Mostly an interesting story, with several illogical twists. Narrator Bahni Turpin was excellent. Amy McFadden, not so great. She had her moments, but the southern drawl was painfully stereotypical, as were many of her characterizations.
