Historia
In 2012, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was clinging to power in a vicious civil war. When intelligence revealed that the dictator might resort to using chemical weapons, Pres. Obama warned that doing so would cross “a red line”. Assad did it anyway, killing hundreds of civilians and forcing Obama to decide if he would mire America in another unpopular war. When Russia offered to broker the removal of Syria’s chemical weapons, Obama leapt at the out. So begins an electrifying race to find, remove, and destroy 1,300 tons of chemical weapons in the midst of a raging civil war.

A deep dive into historical Syrian conflict
Revisado: 07-16-23
This book provides a comprehensive look at the political turmoil and military struggles of war torn Syria through 2 U.S. presidencies and the efforts (sometimes less than effective) of both to intervene. Joby Warrick paints a grim and chilling account of chemical warfare at the ground level and highlights the frustration of a nation left to suffer under Assad's terrifying rule.

Growing up in majority-white schools and churches, Austin writes, “I had to learn what it means to love blackness,” a journey that led to a lifetime spent navigating America’s racial divide as a writer, speaker, and expert helping organizations practice genuine inclusion.

4 hours of bashing white people
Revisado: 04-07-21
I was hoping to gain an understanding for a different perspective from listening to this book. I came with an open mind and an interested heart. However, this whole book is built upon overgeneralizations about an entire race of people. At every turn the whites are conspiring and destroying black culture. Every single negative experience the author has with a white person is contextualized into something having to do with racism. Just absolutely over the top. No new ideas and no new insights. Just bashing on white people for 4 hrs and fostering a victim mentality. Really don't recommend.

Everything is your fault
Revisado: 03-31-21
The entire gist of this book is that everything is your fault (even if it's not) because if you just change YOURSELF, it will make everything better. No matter that a relationship is 50/50, but if you make sure you're somehow an entirely different person and just give up, fights will stop happening and things will go back to the way they were. Complete and utter nonsense. I bought this book many years ago when I was at a very low point in an abusive relationship and thank God I did not listen to it. This is just made to play on vulnerable people and give them some false illusion that if they can "make themselves better" things will be good again. That is not real and it is actually pretty harmful. If your partner is not willing to work on things constructively with you and fix themselves with you, RUN. They are not worth you or your love.

So freaking repetitive.
Revisado: 02-06-21
Ted Cruz spends chapter after chapter repeating himself when his opinions can be explained in a few sentences. He presents some good points, some bad points, but overall the book is a tedious read.

Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

This is a long book.
Revisado: 10-09-20
I bought this after watching the Chernobyl show on HBO and waiting to get a deeper appreciation for the events surrounding this disaster. This book definitely did that... but it was SO freaking long as an audio. Had to listen to short pieces here and there, but finally made it through! Narrator is nice and not too monotone like some.

Revisado: 05-16-20
Jodi Picoult usually does a killer job at twist endings, but saw this one coming a mile away. Also, in 20+ hours of listening they never once ask the kid if he did it or not... just keep on making assumptions. If that sounds frustrating, that's because it is!

Just sad and unsatisfying.
Revisado: 01-28-20
What is the motivation for the haunting? Why does it only affect certain people? In this short story nothing is explained and it seems to be only sad for sadness sake. Just left at the end thinking "wtf?" Narrator did a good job of bringing creepiness to the words, but didn't save the plot.

Historia
Two victims of the infamous Cleveland kidnapper share the story of their abductions, their decade in captivity, and their final, dramatic rescue. On May 6, 2013, Amanda Berry made headlines around the world when she fled a Cleveland area home and called 911, saying: “Help me, I’m Amanda Berry...I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been missing for 10 years". A horrifying story rapidly unfolded. Ariel Castro, a local school bus driver, had separately lured Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight to his home, where he kept them chained in the basement.
