Historia
John Varley's monumental trilogy - Titan, Wizard, and Demon - has achieved cult status, hailed as a modern triumph of the imagination by critics and fans. It begins with humankind's exploration of a massive satellite orbiting Saturn. It culminates in a shocking discovery: the satellite is a giant alien being. Her name is Gaea. Her awesome interior is mind-boggling - because it is a mind. A mind that calls out to explorers...and transforms all who enter.

Imaginative story!
Revisado: 10-04-24
I wasn’t sure about it at first and it has some parts that I found hard to follow, but once the real story is revealed I found it quite imaginative and fascinating. The reader is not bad but her tone is very unnatural and a little too bouncy. It wasn’t enough to make me not enjoy the book quite a bit. I’m definitely going to keep listening to the next one.

At least until he meets Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly.

A charming yarn excellently narrated
Revisado: 05-20-24
I don’t usually read plain fiction (typically I read sci-fi), and so this story felt a bit mundane, but it was quite charming as a whole. The narrator does an amazing job of embodying all of the various characters and really bringing them to life. I forgot I was listening to one man.

Historia
The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: That sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

Excellent story, fantastically narrated.
Revisado: 03-14-24
This is my first Jemison read, and it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. There were a few points where I became disinterested and a little impatient, but overall it’s a fantastic story of epic scale.
Robin Miles is a excellent narrator and I sometimes choose books just because she’s reading them.

Historia
This is the way the world ends, for the last time. The season of endings grows darker, as civilization fades into the long cold night. Essun - once Damaya, once Syenite, now avenger - has found shelter, but not her daughter. Instead there is Alabaster Tenring, destroyer of the world, with a request. But if Essun does what he asks, it would seal the fate of the Stillness forever. Far away, her daughter Nassun is growing in power - and her choices will break the world.

A tight little story about the beginning of a potential end to humanity as we know it.
Revisado: 07-12-23
I’m reading this series in chronological order, but starting to think I should have gone in written order. This one is a complete departure from the tale in Wild Seed and Mind of My Mind. It is gripping, interesting, and hints at a much larger story that could be told. The end feels like it comes too soon, but it is the right time for it. I wish the story of what led the world to be in the state it’s in was told here as well. Overall its a great example of Butler’s imagination and story-telling skill.
The narration is done very well. Voices are distinct and tastefully done.

Her creator, an immortal named Doro, has molded the human race for generations, seeking out those with unusual talents like telepathy and breeding them into a new subrace of humans who obey his every command. The result is Mary: a young black woman living on the rough outskirts of Los Angeles in the 1970s, who has no idea how much power she will soon wield.

Great story, mediocre narration
Revisado: 07-03-23
The story is great. Really leaves you wanting to read the next. You can tell that Wild Seed was written after this one as they are quite unrelated, and the depth of Anyanwu’s character is completely absent here, like it hadn’t been conceived yet. So if you’re reading to find out more about her story, you’ll be disappointed.
After listening to Robin Miles’ amazing narration of Wild Seed, Christie Clarke’s reading of Mind of My Mind was a big letdown. While not unlistenable, it was very flat and monotone. I kept losing track of what was going on and couldn’t tell who was speaking ever. Still worth a listen.

Historia
For a thousand years, Doro has cultivated a small African village, carefully breeding its people in search of seemingly unattainable perfection. He survives through the centuries by stealing the bodies of others, a technique he has so thoroughly mastered that nothing on Earth can kill him. But when a gang of New World slavers destroys his village, ruining his grand experiment, Doro is forced to go west and begin anew. He meets Anyanwu, a centuries-old woman whose means of immortality are as kind as his are cruel. Now they begin a struggle that will last centuries.

Wonderful tale fantastically read
Revisado: 06-17-23
A great story told very well. At times I was confused and frustrated by Anyanwu’s behavior towards Doro, but how could I hope to understand a character as deep and complex as she. It left me craving more of the story.
Robin Miles did an incredible job of bringing each character to life. She gives them each a unique voice, and at times I forgot it was just one person narrating. One of the best narrators I’ve heard.

At last, one of the world’s greatest works of science fiction is available - just as author Stanislaw Lem intended it. To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

Historia
There is Thorn, a shaman himself. He lives to pass down his wisdom and his stories - to teach those who would follow in his footsteps. There is Heather, the healer who, in many ways, holds the clan together. There is Elga, an outsider and the bringer of change. And then there is Loon, the next shaman, who is determined to find his own path. But in a world so treacherous, that journey is never simple - and where it may lead is never certain.

Excellent tale of the cycles of prehistoric life
Revisado: 03-23-22
This was an excellent tale, told with lots of well researched detail and occasional poetic beauty. The narrator does an excellent job as well, with distinct voices for each character, and plenty of forethought and emotion. Complaints about the main character talking about his privates too much are undeserved. It’s done in a natural way, and I guarantee any real 12 year old boy, modern or ancient, thinks about and touches it 1000 times more than this. Highly recommended.

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Classic, but why change voices?
Revisado: 05-11-20
This is, of course, a great novel and the beginning of an amazing series. The full cast did a pretty good job, but some chapters were read by a single person, the narrator. This causes a bit of confusion when from one chapter to the next a voice is completely changed. This is most apparent in the Baron Harkonnen. It didn’t ruin it, though. Just glad he didn’t read any of the Princess Irulan intros. Now, on to the next!
