Everyone Should Read or Listen to This Book!

Once again Kristen Hannah engages us in a mesmerizing historical fiction. This book was particularly compelling to me, as my first husband was a Viet Nam vet, who joined the Marines when he was 18.
I was surprised when I found myself crying in the last chapters of this book, as I thought all of those memories were behind me. Thank you for staying true in describing the culture of that time, and I'm so glad you told us about the brave women who were there too! So many people were broken by the war. Also, thanks too from all us romantics for resurrecting Jamie!
One thing is for sure - WAR IS HELL!

Great Story, Disappointing Ending

I really enjoyed listening to this book, which was sort of a coming of age story and a cross between "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and the "Odyssey". The story line and characters were well-developed and interesting with a lot of twists and turns. I was disappointed and surprised, however, with the darkness of the ending, as the rest of the story was rather light and not as consequential. Although the characters certainly had their faults and difficulties, I didn't think this ending was warranted. However, I think it would make a great miniseries.

Not Sure I Liked the Ending

I did like the book and it kept me in suspense until the end. I'm hoping Morgan got her act together and was going to be a real nanny and not scam anyone. I also wanted Don to maybe live with his daughter and her family, or at least visit with them more often. However, I think the book was more realistic than romantic, and maybe emphasizes how important our actions and omissions are.
