The story being good was the ONLY thing that got me through this. That and speeding the book up to 1.25 speed! The narration was horrendous!! Julie Garwoods writings deserve better than this. I am sorry Anne Flosnik, I feel terrible saying unkind things towards narrators, but this was not the best work.
The story was adorable. I loved the interactions between all the characters. The story isn't one of dragging out what we all know will happen in the end, but instead embraces it and let's us enjoy the love and romance.

I’ve never read a romance, historical or otherwise, that had a deaf main character. Being hard of hearing myself, and having access within the deaf community, it was interesting. Ive actually had this book in my library for some time, but have been putting it off because I couldn’t imagine how deafness would be incorporated into a historical romance. Turns out, it can be done very nicely, not entirely accurately (in my opinion. I am hard of hearing and lip read, but I can hear sounds to correlate with the lip movements to help me to discern whats being said. It works most of the time, but not always. I do not believe that someone could lose their hearing completely and learn to fully lip read in a couple years with no sound, or sign, to help.) but its fiction so who cares. Thats the thing about fiction thats great. You take the impossible and make it possible. I loved it, and am going to go ahead and get the next one in the series. I’m sad to see that, at this time, people have been waiting for the third book as its been put off over and over again. But, Maya Banks is notorious for having this problem. We just have to accept it and hope it's soon.
Kristen Potter was great. Shes not a superb “actress” but she has a lovely, soothing voice that’s nice to listen to. She does a nice Scottish accent.

The story in this book was ok, and I did enjoy it for the most part, but at times I just wanted them to get on with it. There was a lot of focus on Bournes anger and revenge. Bourne lost his family estate in a poker game. Years later, Penelope's father won the estate from the man who cheated and stole it from Bourne. He put the estate up for Penelope's dowery to encourage a man to marry her. Bourne kidnapps and marries Penelope to get the estate back. They were childhood friends, and Penelope had always loved him, though she didn’t realize it. The two had passion, but the development of the romance could’ve been better. It dragged on and on and on. It was a lot of him trying to put distance between the two of them until suddently he just realizes, out of nowhere, that he loves her. Kind of like the afterthought. I would have rather there been more time spent on them them falling in love, and his distance, anger and revenge the afterthought. Overall I did enjoy the read well enough, though I did speed it up about halfway through. I am unsure if I’d get the rest in the series, however if they were in the 2 for 1 sale I definitely would.

This was a pretty fun story, though it took wwaaayyyy too long to “get to the point” in some regards. About halfway in I was just wishing it was over so I sped up the book a little and thankfully it started to pick up shortly after. I really liked Fionas loyalty to doing what was right, even when it goes against the odds. I probably won’t go out to get the next book in the series, unless it was in one if the sales. The narrator was good, but early on she went really really heavy in the Scottish accent and it was really hard to decipher. As the book went on, she got quite a lot better at it and it was easier to catch. I got this on a 2 for 1 sale and for that it was worth it. If I’d have used a credit on it thiugh I would have been disappointed.

I’m honestly not certain why, but though I enjoyed this book I spent a good portion annoyed. I looked forward to reading it for the most part. I guess maybe because the narration was so stinking slow. I had to speed it up to 1.10 and eventually went ahead and moved it up to 1.15 and at that point was when I really started to enjoy the book the most. I totally thought that the characters were great I loved the maternal and paternal sides of both the main characters and I loved all of the children. It’s not often that we read a book where the children are such a main part of the story. The characters all had loyalty and honor and it was nice to read. I have to admit that if I knew somebody who had four husband’s that have all died, I would be pretty judgy on the how and why.
All in all a decent read. I will look for the two following in this series on the sale rack.

There are very few books that have touched me as deeply as this one. I didn’t want to read this book. I hate war stories. I read it because my daughter-in-law begged me to. She read it and loved it, but we generally tend to read different genres. I grudgingly used a credit and promised that I would read the book as soon as my two other books in the queue were finished. I finally got to this one and put the book on, and increased the speed, thinking that I would be glad to hurry it up and get it over with. Boy was I wrong, and I knew early on to put the speed back to normal.

As the description says, this story is about two sisters who experience the war into very different ways. What the description doesn’t talk about is the intense relationships that are built throughout the book, the intense experiences that are lived through, and the very real visions of what could definitely have happened during that time. Yes as some reviewers have complained about, there are historical inaccuracies. However, this is fiction, not a historical biography. People get so bent out of shape about that, but I feel that this book instilled in me a desire to seek out more about the history. We all know about Nazis, and Hitler, and the war, but maybe we don’t know about somebody’s point of view perspective, or experiences. This just gives us a glimpse into some of the possibilities.

The narrator did an absolutely phenomenal job. It was as though the book was written with her narration in mind. Between the author and the narrator, I was able to fully immerse myself into the story, build relationships with the people, feel their happiness, love, heartbreak, uncertainty, fear and pain. I am desperately sad that its over, and I will most likely do something I very very very rarely do, and read it again.

I fully and completely recommend this book. Just try it. If you dont like it, you can return it. Take the risk. It will touch you, and quite possibly change you.

OK the headline seems a little dramatic but I was so annoyed through the majority of this book, and at times it was so hard to listen to! How do people not know a person that they’ve known for years and years and years who’s only been gone for one year? I see friends and family all the time that I haven’t seen in years and I’m still able to tell their identity! That piece of the storyline was pretty drawn out and took absolutely forever to find the answer. That said, it was extremely satisfying to finally get the answer to the question of Hunters identity. About halfway through I sped the book up to about 1:15 because it was juuusssttt sssoooooo dddrraaawwwwnnnnn oooouuuutttt. However when I got to “the part” I put it back to its normal speed and finish the book that way. I don’t know if I would say it was worth the credit or not. It was probably worth part of a two for one sale bundle just because Lisa Kleypas and Rosalynn Landor are fantastic team, but if you’re trying to make a decision between this book and another one, I’d say go ahead and get the other one. In fact, The Gamblers of Cravens series are well worth their credits.

Glad this book is over! It wasn’t horrible, but neither was it good. I read reviews that the narrator was oh so wonderful. Uh...not so much so in my opinion! In fact, I am shocked by the rave reviews about her being “one of the best” because to me she was polar opposite! I had to speed the book up to 1:15 just to get through it!
As for the story, I remember absolutely loving Jude Deveraux back in the days before audiobooks. I expected that, based on the reviews, the book would be fairly period accurate which would tick people off in todays modern age. However, some of the things in the story really took it too far, even for me who had expected some time period unpleasant stuff. I am going to go ahead and completely skip this series and try another of JD’s books...when they go on sale. As for thr narrator... I hope I never have to listen to her again, though shes not the worst I’ve ever heard. At least I was able to finish the book!

This was a great book and I completely enjoyed it. I did read these two in this series (this is the first, Dreaming of You is the second) out of order and dangit I wish I hadn't. I hate doing that and I kept trying to recall things from the other book. I'll probably have to re-listen to the other one again just because I want to understand things that I missed last time. Fortunately, it was a good book so I won't mind. lol.
Lily Lawson is a woman who has been terribly hurt by her child being taken from her, and held hostage for money for the past 2 years. Nobody but her one friend knows about it and you can't help but feel sorry for her. At one point, I even teared up quite a bit as I was really able to relate to the portrayed pain. I can't imagine having to deal with the loss of my child. Fortunately, and forgive me if this is a spoiler but I kind of feel like it's a 'no brainer' ending piece, but she gets her daughter back so her loss isn't permanent. I love the relationship between Lily and Alex. Just a nice easy happy book.

I would definitely recommend the read... in order. :o)

Another great Brigertons installment

Great installment! This was Collins story as he he falls in love with Penelope!

I really liked how we got to see the scene in the ending of the last book with Penelope and Collin, from Collins point of view in the scene, in the beginning of this book. It was written so that those of us who are following the series were able to see both sides and connect the story’s, as well as for newcomers who might have picked up the book in the wrong order.... They would fully get the story.

I was very happy that Penelope got to be in a story of her own. She has spent all the previous books being a part of those stories, that to have her in her own story was fun. I can’t say too much without revealing spoilers, but if you dig hard enough you can probably find the answers you’re looking for. I must say that I am not a fan of Hyacinth. JQ has her really kind of a brat. I don’t think it’s funny to be somebody who takes a person’s secret and negotiates to keep your mouth shut only to turn around and renegotiate and reveal the secret. It’s not cute, it’s not funny, it’s just bratty and I don’t like it. Hopefully in her future book she will grow out of that infantile behavior.

I loved how “the situation” was handled in the end. Obviously I’m not trying to give away spoilers so my comment seems a little obscure. But there was a situation at the end that needs to be dealt with, and I completely did not see them handling it the way they did and I thought it was fantastic. I absolutely loved Lady Danbury (throughout the whole book) and when she started to clap, it actually made me cry a little.

Rosalyn Landor did a great job as usual. I’m kind of disappointed to see up in future books that they switch her out and go to Simon Prebble. I am sure he is as good as the narrator but it seems like Roslyn Landor has been with the Brigertons this long, kind of stinks that they’re going to change over. But that’s in the future.

Definitely a worthy installment, and worth a credit.
