From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans comes an unforgettable edge-of-your-seat mystery that is at once heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human.

Wow

I just read a negative review and I cannot imagine the human who could’ve written it. The premise isn’t meant to be the main character here. I don’t think the author sought to ‘surprise’ the reader with a brand new!!! plot or twists and turns. It’s a character-driven story and a study in the complex, layered and nuanced relationships between people in their youth and how those relationships echo throughout our lives even when we’ve quite changed and grown. The author built this with surprising simplicity and the female characters were so completely relatable I found myself thinking back to my best friendships many times while reading. It is a beautiful, engaging and poignant book and I’m so glad I read it.

Historia
For nearly three thousand years, Helen of Troy has been both the embodiment of absolute female beauty and a reminder of the terrible power that it can wield. Held responsible for both the Trojan War and enduring the enmity between East and West, for millennia she has been viewed as an exquisite agent of extermination. But who was she really? Focusing on the 'real' Helen, bestselling historian Bettany Hughes reconstructs the true life for this elusive Green Bronze age princess and places her alongside the heroes and heroines of myth and history.

I just love everything Ms. Hughes does!

Informative, insightful, entertaining. She has a way of making every topic she delves into so accessible without sacrificing details and information. And, as it can really make or break an audiobook, she’s also a really great narrator. Really, I can’t say enough good things about this book.
