The idea of going to a limbo between life and death where you can examine other lives is definitely it seems everyone has thought about at least once. This makes the midnight library intriguing to start out though the premise is used in perhaps a cliche manner to talk about suicide and what it means to be happy. The writing here isn't terrible and I think people will like this book, though the plot and directions it took could have been a little more brutal.

The first and last stories had riveting premises and were well executed. There were some more experimental type of shorts in the middle with the longest story, about raising AI as children, leaving some things to be desired.

Required reading for all Pyongyang-ologists. The events and people are thoughtfully displayed in human light which challenges popular media perceptions. A few short chapters about history can be supplemented by more academic writing but if you are interested in modern lives and day-to-day details from an American of all people, definitely worth it.
