Learning something new.
Revisado: 01-30-23
This is a sweet but sad story about the “Donut Dollies .” Another part of the war I had not heard of. I knew some in an abstract way but to hear it here put it in a whole new perspective. Great story telling. I have such admiration for that generation.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Strong women
Revisado: 07-30-22
I love listening to Petra Durst-Benning’ s books because I am always learning the history of her topics be it champagne or glass blowing. Also for the time period she writes of she always has independent women who stood up for what they wanted and needed.

Historia
Stephen L. Carter delves into his past and retrieves the inspiring story of his grandmother’s life. She was Black and a woman and a prosecutor, a graduate of Smith College and the granddaughter of slaves, as dazzlingly unlikely a combination as one could imagine in New York of the 1930s - and without the strategy she devised, Lucky Luciano, the most powerful Mafia boss in history, would never have been convicted. When special prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey selected 20 lawyers to help him clean up the city’s underworld, she was the only member of his team who was not a white male.

History is an amazing thing!
Revisado: 01-31-22
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I am almost 60 and female and am always amazed to learn what we were never taught in schools. There is so much history of so many people and cultures that are ignored. Thank you for bringing to life a new lesson.

Sweet
Revisado: 05-27-21
It took a little bit for me to get into the story but once I did I couldn't wait to listen. The story is sad but sweet. Reminds the readers that everyone grieves in their own way and that there is not a time set in stone for mourning and life to go on and happiness to enter again. The narrator was very pleasing to listen to.
