Pretty Okay Read
Revisado: 09-16-23
Review for Book #1:
This started off interesting and continued to be interesting until about halfway through. My biggest issue was how one-dimensional the guys were. The author only managed to flesh out one: Ragner. The rest are one big blur. Which is unfortunate because there is enough of a story to keep me interested in everything.
The big mystery surrounding the heroine and her sisters was pretty cool too. It's disappointing that there were no answers to any of my questions to be had in this first book. I think I'm hooked enough to give the next book a try. Overall, it passed the time just fine and was an okay filler book between. major book release dates ♡

Toxic air. Vicious Beasts. Poisonous ash falling from the sky. That’s what awaits anyone brave enough to traverse the electrified fence of the compound I grew up on. My only chance at freedom is the arrogant - and oh so handsome - Prince Damien. Every girl wants to marry him - except for me. But, when our weekly ration of healing elixir isn’t enough to save my mother, giving myself to Damien is my only hope. I Ended Up Loving This Book So Much!
Revisado: 09-11-22
* I received/won a copy of the audiobook from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
Yet another one of those books that I finished and somehow forgot to review. *Sigh* I haven't lost my head yet because it's attached to my body by the neck it seems.
I'm *pretty* sure I tried picking this up in the past at least 1 other time. There are some books that just don't work for me if I need to physically read them but will work for me as an audio book. This one was one of those.
I loved this book so much! The main couple was interesting. The heroine is just as in the dark as the reader is about everything that's happening to her so she's right there along with us for the mystery. I wish the hero was more open and communicative with her. Though judging by how this book ended and left things between them, things are going to get worse before they get better.
I'm very interested in the mystery at hand and will probably pick up the next book in the future!

Historia
When I broke my year-long vow of celibacy for a one-night stand with a beautiful, intriguing wolf girl I met in a Las Vegas bar, I thought I’d be chalking it up to just another notch on my bedpost—as much as I’d actually wished it could have been more. But when I return home to my pack and my duties as alpha, including my new volunteer gig at Blackstone Academy as its interim men’s soccer coach, I discover that my Vegas girl is not only the school’s latest hire but she’s also the newest addition to our pack—and she’s not exactly thrilled about it.

Pleasantly Surprised!
Revisado: 06-18-22
I was pleasantly surprised by this story. When I first heard that Knox "The Jack*ss" Monroe would get his story I was not on board. I've been burned in the past bad with anti-hero stories so, if I'm being frank, I was going to skip this one entirely. It was actually really cool to win a copy and try it out and end up loving it!
Going back to those anti-hero stories that have burned me in the past. At first, I thought this story was going to give Knox a personality transplant to make him likable enough to get to a place in the story where he deserves a happy ending. I can not tell you how wrong I was! He's still the same old Knox just quite a few years removed *ahem* matured from his philandering ways. He's sowed his oats and just wants to settle down while still keeping the respect he's earned as alpha. It was actually a breath of fresh air to see him not be a d*ck for the sake of being one. I liked that he actually learned how to respect people that are less powerful than him in the hierarchy of the pack. It was weird because I found myself kinda sorta liking him for the first time since he was introduced.
Kady was fantastic! She was such a good match for Knox. I loved her sass and spunky personality. I liked that she didn't grow up in a pack and therefore didn't care much about hierarchy, power level, and such. I loved how fate basically threw Knox and Kady together. Their banter was also very entertaining to listen to.
I didn't see the resolution with Knox's father coming but I'm very glad that that plotline has been put to rest. That guy deserves whatever he has coming.
However, there were things I didn't love about this book. Firstly, the overdramatic girl-on-girl hate. This is something that has been present in all the books I've read by this author so far and it still bothers me to no end. Secondly, how what seems, but is probably an over exaggeration on my part, like every other pack aside from Knox's is extremely homophobic and sexist. This is fiction. Could we maybe tone that down? The world is burning as it is. I want to get away from all that when I'm reading not dive head first into it.
Overall, I enjoyed Knox's story very much. I will continue on in this series and will probably read whatever else this author writes. The writing style is rather steady-paced and relaxing to listen to. I'm very glad I was proven wrong with this book!
The Audio Book:
The narration was great! All the characters were distinguishable from each other.

Historia
When my family finally left our little close-minded pack back in Utah to join a huge progressive pack in Northwest Louisiana, I thought I’d finally be free of the chains of judgment, scrutiny, and homophobia that had tainted my life. But when the Alpha’s son rejects my sister as his fated mate on our very first day at Blackstone Academy, his callousness and stupidity kick off a chain of events that embroils us both in the drama we wanted to avoid. It also entangles me with the Alpha Heir’s best friend, Thad James, and I can’t seem to fight my attraction to him.

Ben Got His HEA!
Revisado: 04-06-22
This book did something I wasn't expecting it to do. It interweaved Ben's story into Mave's story (Book #1) in an interesting way. In this book, we get to see what was happening with Ben while Mave was being put through the wringer in her book.
Being in Ben's head and seeing what Mave was going through put a different perspective on things in the best way. I also liked getting to know him. He was very self-assured and confident in himself. I loved how he never mistreated anyone who was "beneath" him in the pack hierarchy. The way he made Thad stew in the consequences of his own actions was glorious.
I disliked Thad for probably the first 50% or so of this novel. He was an arrogant *ss who deserved everything he got. Personally, I would have liked to see him grovel more. I did eventually warm up to him though. He become a much more down-to-earth person as the relationship with Ben progressed. Deep down, I still think Ben could have done better if I'm being brutally honest.
The ending was great but the epilogues were jarring. It gave a glimpse into Knox's story but what the author wasn't counting on is that even though he's been reformed and has "grown" I'd much rather get Harriet's story than Knox's. Fingers crossed she'll get her own book!
Onto what I loved about this book: the LGBTQ+ representation. It's great to see characters from the community who play an integral role in a plot who don't get killed, tortured, or traumatized for shock value. I loved that Ben's parent's moved heaven and earth to protect their son from the prejudice of their old pack. It's not every day that parents in books actually do some good and protect their kids (at least in the books I read 😅).
Onto what rubbed me the wrong way: The slut-shaming was still really, really, really annoying. Catching glimpses of the air-headed characters doing it to Mave from Ben's POV was still very annoying. I still think the overall story (Book #1 and #2) could have done with much less if any at all of this particular trope.
The Audio Book:
Listening to this book made me realize that I can actually like male narrated audio books as long as there isn't a female narrator in the production. Through this experience, I learned that what bothers me SO much with male narrators isn't necessarily the lack of female voices/tones it's the comparison I automatically draw when a female narrator switches the POV every other chapter. My brain gravitates to the female narrator because they usually have a bigger range of believable male and female voices than male narrators. With this narration, because there was no switch off from male to female narrator the story was much more enjoyable because I wasn't actively dreading the male narrated chapters because the voices sounded funny.
With that being said the narration was good! Though the male characters did get jumbled up a few times in my head because there was so little distinction between their voices. This audio book also didn't have any weird noises in the background.

Loved This!
Revisado: 12-08-20
I adore this series and I'm so glad it's still living up to my expectations from the first time I read it. This time around the secondary characters left a big impression on me. I especially liked Vlad in this book (too bad his series made me despise him).
I love Cat. She's stubborn, protective of what's hers and a kick*ss fighter. Her relationship with Bones' can get rocky at times, but she doesn't back down easily or martyr herself. I like how she's grown and evolved from the first book when she used to go to a bar to seduce and stake a vampire a night.
I like Bones overall, but he can come off as too overprotective in quite a few situations. That's not what I would consider a quality and it sometimes annoys me to no end. Other than that, I like how he's brutally honest especially when it comes to making difficult decisions.
I consider this series to be a classic in the vampire genre. If you like vampires (that don't shine) with a dash of romance and gore, I recommend this series to the ends of the earth and back.
The Audio Book:
I liked everything about this book except Bones' voice. It's not at all what I first imagined when I first read these books (before the audio books released). My gripe with his voice is the overall pitch. I've never met a guy that spoke in that high of a pitch. Other than that, the narration was awesome.

I Love This Series!
Revisado: 12-08-20
I can't put into words how much I love this series! This is my second time reading this novel in particular and it's just as good as when I first picked it up quite a few years ago.
Cat seems to have left her goody two shoes behind in the last novel. This time around she's an incredible fighter and tries not to take sh*t from anyone. Especially her mother (which is still as annoying as ever). I dislike how she still manages to keep her half baked "plans" from Bones because all it does is cause uncomfortable situations.
I like Bones. He'll take names and drop bodies in no time and still protect Cat to the best of his ability. He's sweet in a completely violent way and it suits the story.
The ending felt abrupt and out of place. I would have preferred the next novel start out with the Dave situation. It would be a mild cliffhanger, but, for me, it would be small enough to not make anyone angry. Overall, this was a fantastic novel and very well written.
The Audio Book:
I still haven't gotten over how high pitched and strange Bones voice is. I love the story and I have no problem with anyone's voice other than Bones. I like british accents as much as any other person, but why does it have to be so high pitched? With that as an exception, the rest of the narration was very good.

Such A Good Reread!
Revisado: 12-08-20
It feels so good to reread a series that you love. I've been in a reading slump lately and one of the few things that will help me get out of it is rereading books that I know I adore. This series has officially stood the test of time. I would go so far as to consider it a classic of the urban fantasy/vampire genre.
I love Cat for her witty retorts and her stubborn streak. She's one of the first heroine's that I had the pleasure of meeting. She still manages to stand out today (several hundred books down the line). Though I still don't agree with her withholding important information from Bones, I can understand why.
Bones is incredible. Though he can come off as quite a jerk, I warmed up to him and his dry humor pretty quickly. I liked how the author portrayed the lengths he'd go to protect, help and save Cat as the book progressed. Though his voice in the audio book rubbed me the wrong way, I did eventually get used to it.
I still dislike the ending, but I know the adventure is only getting started. This whole series is written so well. I wished it had gone on for longer than seven books.
The Audio Book:
I enjoyed Tavia Gilbert's narration, but her voice for Bones still leaves something to be desired for me. His pitch is unusually high for a guy that it threw me for a loop. I did, eventually, get "used" to it but it still bothers me.

When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

Amazing!!
Revisado: 12-08-20
This series has proven itself to be amazing! I love how the stories are set up and span a full book with no cliffhanger at the end. The writing and pacing are great! Books by Annette Marie just keep getting better and better with every new release.
I love Tori's sense of humor and how sassy she is even in inappropriate moments. The backbone she's sporting makes her one heck of an interesting character as well. All that being said, I also have soft spot for her. Especially now after learning a little more about her past in this book. I will admit that Tori made a lot of idiotic and life endangering decisions on a whim in this story but it didn't feel out of character for her (as strange as that may sound coming from someone who abhors dumb decisions main characters seem to love to make).
I'm having trouble telling the three mages apart. The only one I automatically think of is Erza and that's because I'm rooting for him to somehow have a permanent thing with Tori. It's looking like a long shot if you're only considering this novel but I'm still hopeful... to a degree.
Is it bad that I kind of want a side story/spin-off series/novella on Ghost and his possibility at a happy ending? He's won me over enough that I want to get to know him when he's in his element and with someone he trusts.
Even though I rated this book 5 stars I will say I missed the little bit of romance, that the first book in this series had, in this one. I'm a lover of the romance genre at heart so even though I understand this is an urban fantasy novel I still wanted more development in that department. I can also admit that the overall adventure was awesome!
The Audio Book:
The narration was great! I could tell all the character's apart even when 3 or more were in a conversation. I also wasn't getting lost or confused in any part of the novel due to the narration.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

Annette Marie Has Done It Again!
Revisado: 12-08-20
Annette Marie has done it again! This was a fantastic start to what I can already tell is going to be an amazing series! I love how detail oriented the universe's she creates are. The narration and pace to the story were great and has left me wanting more.
Tori was a fascinating character to get to know. She has quite a temper and refuses to take anyone's crap. Those personality traits don't make it easy for her to keep a job until sheer luck and coincidence make an appearance. I liked seeing her relationship with the guys evolve and how the other patrons went from hostile to reluctantly respectful towards her.
If I'm honest I had a hard time telling the guys (Kai, Aaron, and Ezra) apart during the story. They didn't make a big enough of an impression on me, in the beginning, to make it easier to differentiate them throughout the story. Though by the end I can say that even though I like Aaron, I'm definitely on team Ezra.
The ending surprised me because, for a second there, I was sure this was going to end in a cliffhanger. I'm SO glad that it didn't. I'm excited for the next book now more than ever!
The Audio Book:
Cris did an awesome job with the narration! She has a good range of female and male voices. I didn't get lost in conversations trying to guess which character was speaking.

Very Enjoyable!
Revisado: 12-08-20
Now that I've had a few months to forget my dislike of certain aspects of this series I can say that I enjoyed this novella very much. My dislike was mostly directed towards Logan and Silver and the situations they'd get themselves in. All the other characters were very likable and entertaining.
I like how this novella was set up to give a glimpse into the lives of so many of the characters. This story has me invested in a happy ending for Logan's brothers and Finn. If only writing books was a fast, painless and easy process.
Silver and Logan's happily ever after was cute and that's coming from someone that doesn't necessarily like kids in the books she reads. There are exceptions to every rule and this novella turned out to be one of them. Though I wish I had read this authors books in the order that makes little tidbits in the story more visible to me because, if I'm going off of what happened in the end of this novella, I missed a lot.
In conclusion, the family dynamic in this series is amazing. I love how this story and its characters are accepting of others that aren't like them. Their group accepts that love is love, regardless of species, gender, and ethnicity. No one should be ostracized for showing their true selves and being outside of what everyone considers the "norm". It's a beautiful message that deserves recognition!
The Audio Book:
This narrator's voice has grown on me over the course of this series and a few other books. I love her range in accents and believable male and female voices. She's made me look forward to many other audio books when I see her name mentioned as the narrator. Her narration was awesome in this novella!
