Agenda driven
Revisado: 10-13-24
This book was so agenda driven. The message could have been made without making the world black and white and self righteously beating the reader over the head with it. The children were creepy with violent tendencies, not just misunderstood. I certainly wouldn’t want my grandkids playing with them while I would have no problem with LGBTQ+ friends. And to compare them to children who are evil was unfair too. Seriously, would you want to live next door to the Anti Christ and be threatened with death, dismemberment and burial on a daily bases? It’s not cute and charming. The anti Christian angle was overwhelming.

Historia
Julie MacNeil is 6'4," and although she is neither a WNBA athlete nor a famous model, she has a remarkable story to tell. As an adopted child, she always wondered about the parents who gave her up. After overcoming a challenging childhood and surviving two tumultuous marriages, a chance DNA test revealed an incredibly rare and life-threatening liver-lung disease called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Julie then embarked on a difficult journey to find her birth family. Her goal was to warn them about the disease, which is highly genetic and often undiagnosed.

Our bookclub read The 50 Year Secret for this month and loved it. The story was captivating and we all took something away from it. We were honored to have the author, Julie, join us for our discussion. She was such a great guest. A highly recommended listen.

I know I’m not enjoying a book when I start to listen to it in double time just to get it over with.

Historia
When George Washington was elected president, he reluctantly left behind his beloved Mount Vernon to serve in Philadelphia, the temporary seat of the nation's capital. In setting up his household, he took Tobias Lear, his celebrated secretary, and eight slaves, including Ona Judge, about which little has been written. As he grew accustomed to Northern ways, there was one change he couldn't get his arms around: Pennsylvania law required enslaved people be set free after six months of residency in the state. Washington decided to circumvent the law.

Misleading title and speculation
Revisado: 06-24-20
This is an interesting story but I can’t say it could be considered historical as much of the content is speculation. More like a novel based on actual events. Also, the title including ‘relentless pursuit’ doesn’t seem accurate. Yes, the Washington’s attempted to reclaim their slave, but it didn’t seem relentless. More like a few written letters and attempting to pull political strings that didn’t pan out. They knew where she was the majority of the time. It sounds like they made a few attempts but didn’t pursue it much out of fear of political sentiment. Relentless sounds as if she were fleeing and hiding all her life and is a disservice to her story.

WTF!
Revisado: 07-22-15
I just counted 7 F Bombs in less than 30 seconds of reading. IMHO, it is only a bad writer that needs to rely on one word for expression on thought. Too bad, because the story could have been good.
