Historia
Laid off from her department store job, Carmen has perilously little cash and few options. The prospect of spending Christmas with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofia’s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered yuppie life, does not appeal. Frankly, Sofia doesn’t exactly want her prickly sister Carmen there, either. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs help revitalizing his shabby old bookshop. So Carmen moves in and takes the job.

Cannot understand narrator
Revisado: 12-01-23
I think I have only posted one or two highly negative reviews - and now for this one. I purchased it during the Big Sale - so I cannot return it. I regret not listening to the sample because I cannot keep up with the story line due to the accent of the narrator. My ears are not adopting to her voice - so I will chalk this one up on the do not listen to list.

I couldn’t return it fast enough
Revisado: 07-30-22
I enjoyed the first books but this one is ridiculous. I am finding it hard to believe that it was written by the same person who produced And Only to Deceive and A Poison Season. Also the narrator sounds like she is five years old.

What a great mystery. I love Anthony Horowitz and the references to Foyle’s War and a bit of name dropping from the movie community.

I enjoy Georgette Heyer’s mystery novels. They are relaxing and very British. I also very much enjoy Ulli Brice’s narration.

I found this title in the Plus catalog and thought I would take a chance and give it a listen. I fell for the writing and the narrator. The narrator found the perfect tone and rhythm for the stories. I will give some of the other titles by Anna Katherine Green but I am a little disappointed that they are not read by Shelly Frazier.

Historia
The year that changed everything for the Beatles was 1966 - the year of their last concert and of Revolver, their first album created to be listened to rather than performed. This was the year the Beatles risked their popularity by retiring from live performances, recording songs that explored alternative states of consciousness, experimenting with avant-garde ideas, and speaking their minds on issues of politics, war, and religion. Music journalist and Beatles expert Steve Turner investigates the enormous changes that took place in the Beatles' lives and work during 1966.

When they were fab
Revisado: 02-09-22
I am a true product of the Beatles music and their stories. I was 13 when I saw them on Ed Sullivan and 14 at Detroit 1964 concert with my best friend Pam. So I am slightly biased toward the world of the Beatles and this book did not disappoint. Carefully researched and making great connections between the songs and their life journey.

I will say up front that I am only on chapter 4 - but I am loving this book. Mr. Brooks exhibits his wonderful sense of fun but also has fine insight and such love for his family and his writing and stage partners. It is a great story and insight on the development of one of the great comic minds.

Historia
It’s been 10 years since a group of college friends made a vow: that the first to get rich would rent a boat and invite the others on a cruise. Now, the friends find themselves marooned at a luxurious hotel on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. While their boat is being repaired, they can’t help but observe the daily routine of a fellow hotel guest - a mysterious, white-bearded stranger who sits on the veranda each night and smokes one cigarette, sometimes two.

An old fashion mystery
Revisado: 08-03-20
A Gentleman’s Murder takes place in shortly after the end of WWI. The story is a good mystery with a bit of a locked door element added. While primarily an male cast the characters are unique and provide a deep look at the price paid by the soldiers who fought in the trenches. It is a pleasant listen and I hope there will be another featuring Lt. Eric Peterkin - I found him to be insightful and intelligent.

I did enjoy Ashley Weaver's first book but Death Wears a Mask is just a repeat of the first. Also I did get very tired of the discussion of Milo's philandering and will Amory stay or go.
