Historia
Arthur Leywin has experienced two lifetimes of challenge and adventure. He has lived as a swordsman, a mage, an adventurer, and a king. Now his two lives, old and new, will collide, revealing the connection between King Grey and Arthur Leywin, but at what cost? How will this affect the ongoing war between the nations of Alacrya and Dicathen? Enemy forces threaten the coastal cities, the elven forests, and the fortified mountain passes. Dicathen’s most powerful allies have vanished, and the military alliance between men, elves, and dwarves threatens collapse.

it's getting worse
Revisado: 01-02-25
authors making characters do stupid things to advance plot is common. having entire chapters dedicated to stupid decisions is just annoying and exhausting. haven't decided if I'll continue the series.
one moment art is strategic and intelligent, the next he is a whiny idiot. somehow it he has emotions he loses intelligence.
Tessa is worse. more of a whiny child in this than she was when her character was introduced. gets her people killed, reflects on how her selfishness and stupidity caused it. vowes to be better.
short time later, she decides nobody understands so she must do the stupid and selfish thing despite being informed of the deaths it will cause.
I'm over simplifying but it's bad. painfully bad. to the point I don't know if I'll continue the series

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

entire book is background info
Revisado: 10-09-24
as I said, this entire book is the world building or background info for a real book.
1/10 do no recommend.
this is narrated to me and was still a slog.
it was frustratingly bad for how many people claim it's good.
I kept hearing people tell me I just had to be patient because it would get good. 20+ hours into it and was still being told to be patient.
this is not a story you need to be patient for, it's just poorly written

Will refused to admit to the HR lady at Radical Interactive that he'd never played their debut virtual reality MMORPG The Realm. With the company's failed attempt at entering the gaming industry, they switched their sights to focus on smaller scale educational programs. Being a beta tester for Radical Interactive was not the dream job that Will had envisioned, but he had hoped it would get his foot in the door to one day becoming a graphic designer for the company. He never realized that he was literally signing his life away.

Revisado: 08-05-24
the whiny MC just gets dumber and whinier as the books go on.
it's frustrating.
by time I got to the third book, I skipped to the last chapter after listening to the first 4.
just couldn't take anymore of the illogical actions and continued whining

disjointed
Revisado: 05-12-24
this book is disjointed. the narrators tone was fine at the beginning but grows progressively more annoying.
maybe this book would make more sense if I read the dragon heart series first. As a prequel, maybe it works. As a stand alone, it falls short.

surprisingly good
Revisado: 05-02-24
I had misunderstood the synopsis. I thought it meant cultivators using a different method just happened to show up and give the kid a way to progress that was different than the rest of the world.
that was incorrect. I don't know how to explain it without giving things away but, it is all normal and natural within the story. some coincidences just because MC is mc but overall, solid story with the MC just making quality and sometimes creative use of what he has, and good old fashioned relentless hard work

pick a volume
Revisado: 12-10-23
decent story and narrator isn't bad at all except for an inability to pick a volume level. loud enough to hear him speaking softly means when he ramps back up he is basically shouting in your ear. -_-

Historia
Those who follow the noble art of cultivation know that there's no place for evil in their craft. All that matters is reaching the Heavens, but to do that, one must unlock their Force. The Fallen Star Sect's expedition to the mysterious cave ended in tragedy. Hundreds of their most talented students lost their lives in the dark tunnels. No less horrible was the fate of those who had found themselves at the imperial palace at the time. Nobody could've predicted such a turn of events.

so much fail
Revisado: 09-03-23
author seems to have forgotten what's already been written, changes it to push the plot then writes nonsense to keep pushing plot. puts special item everyone want in magic ring. next chapter enemies show up and he rushed to the downed beast for it's crystal and to put the special item in his ring. the item he already stole and put in the ring a chapter ago. none of the enemies would know what the special item was, if it's already in his ring when they arrive. then after fleeing he looks around "for a piece of wood to use as a weapon" WHAT?! just a couple chapters ago he was fighting beasts above his level with his bare hands AND still has swords in his ring but he's looking around for wood to use as a weapon? of course! that's how he notices the special inscription... wtf, BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE but you get the idea. still good overall story just frustrating watching the author find valid ways to connect his plot points.
went from decent story to going downhill fast in the span of two chapters.

slow is an understatement
Revisado: 02-09-23
slowest book I've read since the dictionary.
great narration, but the first several chapters are so slow, made that much slower by the descriptive nature of the nothingness that is going on.
maybe picks up later but Im not going to keep suffering to find out if it eventually gets interesting
