Historia
The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

Cool concept, torturously slow reading
Revisado: 11-25-23
The concept seemed interesting at first but there was so little story in so much writing. Felt like it could have been the first few chapters in a much more interesting storyline, but alas.
Kept waiting for it to pick up and there were a few decent action scenes / reveals but nothing that makes me want to read the next book.

Historia
Alex Sand was spending the evening at home playing basketball with his two young sons when all three were shot in cold blood. A wealthy federal judge, there’s no short list of people who could have a vendetta against Sands, but the gruesome murders, especially that of his children, turn their St. Paul community on its head. Sand was on the verge of a major donation to a local housing charity, Heart/Twin Cities, and with the money in limbo, eyes suddenly turn to his grieving widow, Margaret Cooper, to see what she might do with the money.

So… disappointing
Revisado: 10-23-23
Great work by the narrator, but the story itself was bland at best. Forgettable characters, slow pacing, a weird mix of aging main characters (and author?) juxtaposed against extreme over use of current events / slang / references. It’s brand new and already not aging well. Too hip for its own good, with little substance. Too many COVID masks and no depth or character development for Lucas or Virgil.

Historia
Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

Time I’d like to get back
Revisado: 10-12-23
Good lord this book dragged - slow start, slight pickup 2/3 of the way through, then solved all at once and dragged on some more. Could have been an interesting storyline but not enough substance or movement, I had 7+ hours left and couldn’t wait for it to end.

Great book, unbearable narration
Revisado: 07-14-23
There’s no way this narrator isn’t a robot. Character voices are fine (bearable at least), the story is so good but narration was distractingly bad. I slowed it down slightly and that helped some, made it through, worth it, hope the next one is a human.

Historia
So begins a press release from a mysterious group known only as “The Five,” shortly after a vicious predator is murdered in San Francisco. The Five is made up of vigilante killers who are very bored…and very rich. They target the worst of society—rapists, murderers, and thieves—and then use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the dark net. The Five soon become popular figures in the media …though their motives may not be entirely pure.

Could have been a decent story, but the sprinkling of Covid and too-recent politics made it an annoying read now and I can’t imagine it will age any better. Want to relive 2020? Read this book!

Historia
The daughter of a US Senator is monitoring her social media presence when she finds a picture of herself on a strange blog. And there are other pictures...of the children of other influential Washington politicians, walking or standing outside their schools, each identified by name. Surrounding the photos are texts of vicious political rants from a motley variety of radical groups. It's obviously alarming - is there an unstable extremist tracking the loved ones of powerful politicians with deadly intent? But when the FBI is called in, there isn't much the feds can do.

Historia
The Republicans are coming to St. Paul for their convention. Throwing a big party is supposed to be fun, but crashing the party are a few hard cases the police would rather have stayed away. Chief among them is a crew of professional stick-up men who've spotted several lucrative opportunities, ranging from political moneymen with briefcases full of cash to that armored-car warehouse with the weakness in its security system.

Boring, confusing, with the worst character voice yet
Revisado: 05-24-23
This was a weird one. After revealing key characters in the murder plot line very early on the book, Sanford then brought in a weird amount of confusion, especially on the side of Lucas. This narrator usually does a great job, but the one voice he did for the fairy character made me want to turn this book off constantly. The ending was not very satisfying.

Historia
In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise.
