Very dull story in an otherwise great series
Revisado: 06-26-25
Sam Dewhurst is much missed. He truly was Lennox and the new narrator doesn't catch his essence and I simply don't enjoy the stories as much. The fiery and funny banter between Lennox and Swift is just gone and much missed. This book did have a few funny lines though. Although, I truly did not enjoy this story at all. All of the characters were shallow and very one dimensional. Most of the men were alike and all of the women were written to be way too similar to each other. I couldn't get into them at all, I simply didn't care about them so I really didn't care who the murderer was. I was not pleased with how this murder resolved either. The narrator does a great job, it's just never the same when a new narrator takes over. I'm sad to say this series should just end. Actually, all series should end when a new narrator takes over. This story was unusually dull. No plot to speak of, no action, just Lennox and Swift stumbling around arbitrarily running into clues. I just don't know about this series anymore. I was surprised that the author chose Ms. Rigsby (sp?) to center another series around and not Ms. Fairchild-the sort of psychic in this series. It would have been much more fun with Ms. Fairchild popping up and doing her thing to help solve murders.

What is the difficult pisition?
Revisado: 06-10-25
I think the title must be a pun for yoga. I love this series, but this particular story was actually pretty bad. I don't want politics and social commentary in my stories. Also, just not a lot of action, suspense or intrigue. Somehow, I just never cared about the characters, the plot or even the villain. Just boring. Still looking forward to the next story though and, hopefully, it won't take nearly as long to get it.

Not the best story in a great series
Revisado: 05-18-25
I found the story rather boring. Just simply not enough action. Too much talking. Not sure about the narrator yet. He really put me off at first and there is simply no replacing Sam Dewhurst but by the end of the book I had begun to make the adjustment. I can tell this narrator is very talented and will probably do since Sam is not available, apparently, but there are some things I wish he could adjust. First, slow down. One of the most entertaining aspects of this series are the barbs that fly, mostly between Swift and Lennox but there are some between others as well. The narrator didn't pause and let the audience absorb the humor in the barbs and let the listener really appreciate them. He just talked over it. Also, what I liked about Sam Dewhurst is that the voices were very distinct but not stereotypically English. I get tired of the snobby sounding women of the British aristocracy-it is very overdone. The butler as well. Make them more human, less a stereotype. The narrator's cadance at first reminded me of James T. Kirk of Star Trek-that over dramatic classic Shakespearian cadance that got William Shatner quite mocked for decades. Fortunately, toward the end of the book, the narrator seemed to have a more normal, conversational rhythm of speaking which helped a lot in being able to finish the book. Sam Dewhurst also had more passion in Swift's voice and and more commanding power in Lenox's. I miss that. I miss the slightly dangerous, I suffer no fools attitude in Lennox's voice, it went a long way in defining his character. As always, looking forward to more Lenox and Swift, but, hopefully, a more action packed, entertaining story. Also, I agree with the other comments about Mr. Fogg-where's the doggie bark?!? lol!

Very good but a little slow for me
Revisado: 04-16-25
Helena Dixon could write a menu and it would be well written and entertaining. She is simply a fantastic author. I loved the characters in this book but the story ran a little slow for me. I would have preferred more action and less talk. The most exciting action item was the lead character getting her purse stolen. I understand that she must introduce the characters as she sets up the series, but it just seems to me she did a much better job of that with the murder in the Dolphin Hotel. There, she introduced us to several characters and there was never a dull moment as there was so much action. In her new series, the number of characters to introduce is very low-a handful really-and not much happened. They figured out who the murderer was and they all went home. Hopefully, things will pick up with her next book on this series. I can't wait to to find out! Love Helena Dixon and I hope the Kitty Underhay series never ends! I also found the narration a bit fast.

Such a great series!
Revisado: 02-16-25
The writing is wonderful, great characters, compelling story and fantastic narration. One of the best cozy mystery series on audible, in my opinion. The only problem I have with this book is the format. There don't seem to be chapters. A lot of the book is in very long sections which makes it difficult to track where you left off or go back and review just the last bit of the last chapter if you don't remember it. I use these books to get me to sleep, so if I set the timer for an hour, i barely have to lean on the reverse button and I'm back several hours. You get used to it, but I prefer the old format per chapter.
My favorite aspect of her writing is that the characters are very realistic to that time period - much more so than other writers in this genre.
I highly recommend this series.

Dutton had been a handsome war hero, but tragedy surrounded him, and his nature had always been unpredictable. Lenox does it again!
Revisado: 01-29-25
Great book, great story and great narration as always with this series. By far, one of the best in the cozy mystery category. My only complaint was the quality of the audio. Particularly in the beginning, it seemed as everyone except Lenox was talking in a tunnel. It was a bit echo-y and sounded distant. Also, the voice of Florence was so damn quiet I couldn't make out what she was saying most of the time. In future books, it would be great if there could be less disparity in volume between Lenox and Florence.
I must say too, I enjoyed the earlier books more, prior to the wives coming into the picture, because the play/banter between Lennox and Swift was livelier, funnier, lighter and more disarming which kept your attention as well as moved the story along. These later books, with the wives in the story, find Lenox and Swift far too serious and dark in mood. Hopefully, the writer can keep their communications with each other funnier and lighter.

This book is just ok
Revisado: 08-28-24
My biggest problem with this book is that I couldn't relax listening to it. I found the narrator's accent and speed a bit problematic such that I had to really concentrate to make out parts of it and there were some parts I never could make out. Nor could I tell the difference between the voices of the all of the major players, they all sounded the same to me. The story was just ok. It dealt with fraud which is very relevant, so I'll give it that, but I ended up solving who done it early on without even meaning to. Like I said, I listen to audiobooks to relax so I don't worry about figuring out who did it, but when I get to the end, if the book is good, I like to listen to it all over again picking up the hints and foreshadowing that led to figuring out the culprit. Not so with this book. The story just didn't hold my interest that much. Not a bad book and my hearing is probably unique to me, but this series is not for me. You will probably enjoy it more.

Historia
Late spring, 1936. As Kitty Underhay steps onto the sun-drenched station platform in Nice, on orders from Whitehall to track down a missing man, she hopes there will still be time to lie by the pool, preferably with a cocktail in hand. But when she and her husband Matt take a brief evening stroll, instead of finding a perfect croissant, they stumble across a body. Kitty and Matt quickly realise it is Fred Bennett, the man from Whitehall they were hoping to find. Had he simply drunk too much fabulous French wine, or is something fishy going on in this seaside city?

Even at book 16, this series continues to only get better and better. I had NO idea who the killer was throughout the entire book-which I pre-ordered, by the way. The characters were so much fun! I love the author's espionage angle, especially given the time period of the book. It would be great if future books had more of that, but I'm sure whatever this author does, it will be great and I will fall in love with Matt and Kitty all over again. I have loved this series from book 1 and look forward to every book that comes out. Keep them coming Ms. Dixon, please!!!! We love you!
