Revisado: 03-02-23
Great plot and I’m a fan of telling the story real-time and in flashbacks. Slaughter has developed a strong heroine and a compelling villain that I hope to see more of in the future.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

King at his Best
Revisado: 11-18-22
Great story and characters. King sucks you into a new world where you’re reminded of the old fairytales before they were disneyfied, where not everyone or everything lives happily ever after.
As much as I enjoyed the story, the narrator made it even better. A fantastic job all around.

I listened to this during a five hour road trip and the time flew by. It was hilarious, smart and very fun. If you’re a fan of McKinnon on SNL, off-colored jokes and ribaldry, then you’ll love Heads Will Roll.

The Reaper is back!
Revisado: 04-13-18
What did you love best about Iron Gold?
I really enjoyed the various perspectives from each of he narrators. The price of victory was high for many.
What other book might you compare Iron Gold to and why?
It reminds me of the last few chapters of The Lord of the Rings. While the primary war has been won, it’s not a happy ending...yet.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Lysander. I’m very comflicted about this character. Is he good, evil, honorable, immature? I still don’t know, but I want to keep following his story and that of the rim.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Spoiler alert: when Romulus bids farewell
Any additional comments?
I grew tired of Darrow and his conflicts. He verged on being whiny and too impulsive. The characteristics I loved about him in the original trilogy didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel that he has evolved in the last 10 years. I hope that changes in the next book.

Southern Gothic at its Finest
Revisado: 03-15-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Blackwater: The Complete Saga to be better than the print version?
N/A
What did you like best about this story?
Holy cow, did I love this book! I grew up in very rural Alabama and McDowell captures the culture, language and family dynamic of us Southerners as well as any author I’ve read. Without the supernatural elements, this is an excellent account of a small town dynasty; however, the supernatural elements make it an exciting, frightening and gothic masterpiece. I also deeply appreciate how McDowell writes about the LGBTQ members of the family and how they are accepted and loved for who they are and who they love. From James to Grace and Lucille, Love is Love is Love is Love. I already miss the Caskeys and am eager to dive into a new Michael McDowell book.
What about Matt Godfrey’s performance did you like?
Matt Godfrey,s performance was fantastic. He brought each character to life, not a simple task considering the multiple generations and many characters.
Who was the most memorable character of Blackwater: The Complete Saga and why?
It’s hard to choose. I loved James, Queeny, Mary Love and, of course, Elinor.

Great continuation
Revisado: 07-16-15
What made the experience of listening to The Invasion of the Tearling the most enjoyable?
It's a great continuation of the first book. I enjoyed learning more about the time leading up to the crossing through Lilly's eyes.
What did you like best about this story?
The pre-crossing flashes through Lilly's eyes, the revelation of who the red queen and the "dark thing" are, and the additional focus on the Church and Father Tyler. I can't wait to find out where he's been.
What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed her performance, but liked the performance in the Queen of the Tearling better.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, definitely.
Any additional comments?
This is a great series so far and I'm eagerly awaiting the third installment.

Historia
Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother’s throne, learn to be a ruler - and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her 19th birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa.

Long Live Queen Kelsey
Revisado: 06-23-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Queen of the Tearling to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print, so not a very fair question.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved how strong Kelsey is as queen. She's flawed, no doubt, but sticks to her convictions. A great role model for any young girl. I really like the snippets of the past and can't wait until the next book to learn more about why the exodus from America happened.
What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?
I love her. She does a great job with the different characters and I find her voice very pleasing.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Kelsey showed compassion to the guard who betrayed her (no names, no spoilers). I also love her relationship with the Mace.
Any additional comments?
Overall, a very good book with a strong female lead.

It just keeps getting better
Revisado: 06-23-15
What did you love best about Golden Son?
I love the story itself - the entire plot.
What did you like best about this story?
The continued development of the characters, and the ongoing action. I thought the school battle in Red Rising grew a little tiresome, but nothing in Golden Son felt played out.
What does Tim Gerard Reynolds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He does an amazing job with the voices. I especially like how he voices Darrow the Gold, vs. Darrow the Red. At times you forget (as Darrow sometimes does) who he really is.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have to say the end was a bit shocking. No spoilers, but I thought about that ending for days...and it makes me even more anxious for the next book.
Any additional comments?
Any comparisons to Hunger Games or any of the other YA dystopian novels, while intended to be flattering, do not do this story justice. It's thoroughly entertaining, intelligent and just bloody damn good.
